First event in the Monza today at long last and it was great fun. Totally uncompetitive but I really enjoyed it.
Event was at Hartlepool and there were only 6 entries.
Locust 7 running a 1.6 zetec
My brother in laws Caterham 7 with his newly fitted 1.6 Nova GSi engine running a carb and a five speed from a V6 Omega with engine moved back 18 inch and offset to the passenger side.
This was my first set of tyres after 3 tests ;D ;D
Had to put my front tyres on the back and my normal road tyres on the front for the rest of the day luckily it started curse word down so the tyres lasted.
I came last out of six but there were 4 in the minis and specials class and only one other RWD car . A mk4 RWD escort with a 2.1 pinto and twin 45`s. I used to be able to match or beat him when I ran my MK1 and I was running around 3-4 seconds a test slower (tests around 1 minute) with the monza. I reckon if both the car and myself go on a diet I could get it competitive.
Only problem I had other than tyres is that its difficult finding first after being in reverse and I kept getting third so ended up having to put it in 2nd then slowly in to first which costs a lot of time. I will have to fit a gate to solve that.
Suspension needs a bit of work as its definetely too soft doesnt roll much but the front end lift under full throttle was causing understeer when it got wet
Heres a few videos I have uploaded. Thanks to Tonycocacola for camerawork.
