Hi, I don't change cars often, and when I do I've always had to pay out to cancel the insurance on my existing policy, to then start a new one with a new.
Am I being thick, is this a wierd way of doing it, or should I be able to remove one car from the policy and add another, and then the insurer would higher/lower the cost accordingly.
Thanks

Just call them up and ask for a quote to transfer your policy to a different vehicle. Depending on the company/change in car, answers can be anything from laughing in your face to a partial refund for the change of vehicle. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

You can normally just call them up and ask them to change what car is on the policy. I've done it a couple of times, there's usually a ~£30 admin fee, but other than that they'll just want the appropriate amount extra if it's a quicker car, or if you're lucky you might even get some back is it's a lower risk car.

Brilliant, I thought so (well kind of). I'll give them a call tomorrow. Its going from a 98 1.4 honda civic to a 91 1.8 VW Golf driver, so I guess a little higher....eeek!

A 91 golf - might be worth ringing adrian flux and the usual suspects to see if they'll stick it on a classic policy.

Yeah had the E30 on classic Insurance, however this is exactly why I usually change insurer, different cars suit different policies. So maybe once I'm up for renewal I'll change.
do/does adrian flux give quotes online ?

Just be aware that some (but by no means all) classic car policies do not provide cover for commuting to and from work ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

lol, I have a 1996 1.4 Civic, expect a re-fund, or at least pay nothing to change! Shockingly expensive to insure for what they are!
Although for the golf defo worth checking some classic insurance comps for that!

I changed from a '95 volvo T5 to a '94 Chavalier diesel. The insurance company reduced the cost by £0, greedy buggers.
I really do think its a lottery with insurance

It really is a lottery. I always get told to try Adrian Flux etc etc, classic car policy etc etc. The usual stuff and it never works for me. Adrian Flux wanted £4000 to insure me on a 2.0L Ghia Sierra. ![::)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/eyesroll.png)

On the subject of insurance, don't forget if it's taxed it needs to be insured or you will be fined. On a SORN you are OK. Just something to remember if it's still in your name and you are changing cars/policies.

Just something to remember if it's still in your name and you are changing cars/policies. Most insurers will let you change the policy over to the new car, then add the old one on as a temporary vehicle until you get it sold.

Yep, so I hear, but the OP was originally going to cancel one and start a new one, so worth mentioning.
