I'm hoping theres a few people in the know on here which I'm sure there are! I'm possibly getting a mk2 escort 4 door 1.3GL at the weekend. Its completely standard.
I'm planning on going for superlites on 175/50's. Burton 2" lowering springs on the front and 2" lowering blocks at the back. Does anyone know if this will sit pretty level? Is anyone running a similar setup? If so pics would be great!
Trying to drop it on a budget so coilovers are out the window.
Any other suggestions/ example pictures welcome. Thanks!

I reckon that a 2" drop with 175/50s might leave you with a bit of an arch gap. Maybe a 185/60 would look better as well as being more practical? 175/50 with a 3" drop.

Thats how I want mine to look. What suspension do you have and how does it ride? Does anything scrape the ground during normal driving? I'm used to low cars as i have mk1 golfs lowered 120mm on 13's but I don't want to be hitting the ground

The silver one's my old beastie! ;D
She was lowered 3inches & sat on 7x13 Superlights with 175/50's
Basically she was on 2.8i Capri front legs with -2inch 190lb springs. The 2.8i legs have a lower spring cup than std Escort or Capri legs, so combined with the said springs give a 3inch drop. -3inch springs are available for the std "small" legs which are fitted to your Escort.
The rear was a 3inch stack of lowering blocks on the std single leaves. Ideally if I had intended keeping her, I'd ave had the rears de-cambered as the utilised method is far from ideal. That said, she did drive ok..
She did sit a little too low at times and I did have to plan my routes not to include speed bumps. A more practical compromise would have been a 2inch drop.
If your car sits level to begin with, then a matching front/rear drop will see the car sit level.

Ah great, the previous owner! Are 2.8i legs easy to come by?
I havent come accross any -3" springs yet. Do you know of anywhere who sell them?
Whats involved in decambering the leaves and where/how much to get it done roughly? Whats the drawback when not done?
Lovely car btw. Looks spot on.
Thanks

Thanks, glad ya like her.
2.8i legs are fairly easy to obtain...i guess ebay being the obvious place to look or the relevant motoring press. Expect to pay up to £200 for a pair with vents/calipers. Too be honest, if you're not running big power, I'd stick with your standard legs or uprate to 1.6 or 2.0 Capri legs. These are actually identical to RS2000 & Mexico legs & are a fairly inexpensive upgrade. The brakes on these legs are the same as your current ones. I think I bought my -3inch springs from Rally Design (before I upgraded to 2.8i legs) I thought Burtons did em too but I may be wrong...
Gartrac can de-camber your leaves or there's usually a spring specialist near most towns. Decambering is the 'proper' way to do it, however there's really nothing wrong with 2inch blocks. I found my car was suprisingly ok on tight twisty corners, but 3inch blocks made her a little wallowy/nervous above a ton in a straight line (on a track of course)

As said, decambering is said to get rid of Axle tramp, which again can apparently affect cars with next to no power from the off. I guess it is one of those situations, where you need to ask if you can live with it and what the future is with the car. Oh, and that Silver Escort looks the nuts .

Mines lowered 2 inches with -2 springs from rally design at the front and blocks at the rear. Tyres are 185/60/13s. i have caught the exhaust clamp a few times but its not too bad. Nice to see Micks car again it was his car that inspired me to buy mine.

Lowered 2" with 7" revolutions and 185/55/13's Lowered 2" with 5 1/2 mex steels and 185/60/13's I've raised it up about 30mm since these pics were taken I wouldn't go 50 series tyres unless you've got plans to put a higher diff in Bill

Here's my old one, fitted with 2.8i Billies with chopped front springs. Chopped one coil out, not ideal but lowered the car by about 3" on the front & lowered 2 " with blocks on the rear
