I was looking to keep this to replace the 306 although my daily losing reverse has made me change my priorities.
Compared to my 205 it is probably almost as much fun (probably as much actually) but in more of an everyday package and as I found on a trip back from Scotland less harsh on the wallet in fuel and actually going faster
. It is cheaper to insure too but heyho, my 205 has other plans....
Back to this car. It is mechanically in great condition. In the past it has received a new lower arm (from the last MOT), a recent exhaust change along with I suspect a new cat, as well as a newish radiator installed. The clutch bites at the right point, the car doesn't wander and it handles quite nicely for what it is
.
The engine pulls very well and sounds very sweet indeed. No sludge etc. present inside, and I have changed the coolant as a precautionary measure (bleeding the system through as it should be).
Interior is not too shabby either bar some wear on the steering wheel and gearknob.
There is the good news. Now for the not so pretty news.
Whilst the car looks straight etc. the front end has seen paintwork at some point (laquer peel on the bonnet, some dubious paintwork on a single spot of the wing, and iffy paint (IMO) on the bumper. IMO, a front blowover and some time would transform the look of this car. Oh, and the rear bumper is cracked. Again, a Quicksilver or GTi bumper would help here too.
The car is stock bar an induction kit fitted. I am at the moment looking for a stock airbox but whether I will find one or not is another matter!
My description may sound harsh but I would rather paint an honest picture of the car despite the age etc.
As a result, it is up for sale at £1000ono. It is a reliable car and was a joy to drive back from Edinburgh back home.
One day I will buy a reliable daily, or get a job that does not entail covering many miles!
