Right, for newbies and those who aren't up to speed, my current project is the installation of a 2.2 16v subaru legacy engine, in the rear of my lovely "ratty" VW T3/T25 caravelle (1983, wasserboxer) Right, off at the weekend to sunny Stoke On Trent to visit a Mr Richard Jones of RJES. I've put some money in his account to pay for my bellhousing and crossmember, I just hope the crossmember is going to fit around my exhaust. ;D, otherwise I've gotta hack it up . Ordered a new stock clutch today from Ebay, for a bargain £99 delivered, I'll not use the center, as I'll be using the Volkwagen center disc. So now I just need some new fuel line, the rubber engine mounts, a starter motor (I can probably rob the starter and mounts from the donor legacy 2.0 I bought), a few clips, and some coolant line and I'm about set. Once I've done this conversion, I think I'll have a crack at a 2.0 legacy powered beetle.

This is my engine, installed in the rear of the previous owners car. He's gone for a turbo engine. Meaning he can't fit this either, shame

You're making this sound too bloody easy! Spending the money has been the hardest part so far, but I figured, once I've got the bits, I can do the other work. Also, it's easier to "copy" something else (i.e. the loom) than it is to learn from a fresh. There is a method to my madness.

How easy is actually phsically fitting the engine? Is it a case of all new engine mount's loads of grinding and welding? So could you (if you so desired fit a twin turbo legacy motor? That would be roooooode. Twin turbo legacy engined t25 pick up. Slammed with some 19" chrome wheels and satin black paint ;D

it's in principal, very easy with the correct parts, the engine mounts will be RJES ones, so "bolt on" pretty much.
I've tried to make this as bolt together as possible, as I want it to "look" factory.
the turbo uses a pull, as opose to push clutch, but the flywheels are all the same.
RJES does a turbo bellhousing, but if I do decide to later turbo, I'll use an uprated N/A clutch on a turbo engine.
If you use an adaptor plate, you can just use uprated VW clutches.

Next..... 2L Turbo impreza engine? Or gearbox upgrade? Adam Box I rekon, then maybe more power, T25's at speed can be sketchy so I'll see how the 2.2 is 1st. That said, a turbo is to go fast, and going fast shouldn't really be in van, so that may happen to a beetle

Of course fast should be in a van! Because no one expects it! How much power has the 2.2 got? Do you think MPG will be improved. Its just our t25 only gets about 20-22mpg.

Yes, fast is good in a van, but the 2.2 should be fast enough..... for now I'll see about 30mpg, and a reliable torquey 140bhp, so I'm told. One of the main reasons I wanted this conversion, was I'm sick of the pee poor fuel return of the wasserboxer, but I do tend to drive at a fair rate, and always thrashing the poor thing to get at . Subaru 2.2's are the best all round engine for power/economy, and i can LPG it too ;D

There's a twin turbo legacy that I'm not, repeat not bidding on on ebay at the moment. I'm definately not bidding on it as I already have too much on my plate with everyone else's cars and vans and my own Beetle project. Plus my van still needs another £200 ish spending on it just to make it roadworthy with the curse word DG in it.
How logical am I? My willpower knows no bounds ;D

Mart, just do it, with a subaru conversion, it'll be fit and forget, provided the cam belts are done pre-install.

I'm going to get it through it's test first. I am. I just keep telling myself that ;D
I've got a 1300 screamer planned for my Polo as well - your "so many ideas, so little money" tag seems slightly appropriate at the moment ;D
