Jamie, the fuel flap isnt specific like that to 1303's, its the same on all post 67 bugs.
If you want to learn all the changes a good book is "Volkswagen Model History", by Joachim Kuch - published by haynes

If you want to learn all the changes a good book is "Volkswagen Model History", by Joachim Kuch - published by haynes likewise I'm sure the run-out of official UK flatscreen models, and definately 'mexbugs' have elephants foot rear lamps - they were introduced for the 1303 but the regular bug started to use them late on in life due to tighter laws. Only surefire way 'at a glance' is the screen and bulgier bootlid.... and if you're inside, the huge plastic dash. 1302's and late regular beetles had a plastic covering to the dash, but it was just a flat one the same. as for the rest of the range differences..... how long have you got? Volksworld used to run a series describing the differences between different model years, and the changes made within a year. one model year would usually take 4-5 issues to complete, with detail such as "brake lamp lens now made by Hella. Formerly Bosch. With effect from chassis number 111 395 778" all the way up to the increase in window size (1966?), the change from split to oval windows and other more widely known differences.

Hehe, yeah that's a lot of info to process. A guy I know has just completed a really sweet '64 (I think) Bug, but he's annoyed that it has '67 window winders. He also grafted the earlier exterior door handle cavity onto his doors as the car had later, but really sound, doors on it. This was because the shape of the cavity was slightly different. Amazing attention to detail, and he's restored a beautiful looking car, but I don't think I could be ar$ed with all that.

i know.... i can see why they do it but it'd drive me mad. Plus some of the prices charged by the VW 'community'....
Beetle Door, 1972, £20. Beetle Door, 1967, £100.
1967 being a special, one-year-only job on a lot of panels.
