collected the new engine sat morning. the afternoon was taken up with cleaning the car and the FA Cup which meant the swap didnt happen till sunday. Once we had woken and had a proper fry up (and watched the MotoGP and F1) it was nearly 3pm. So in a few hours yesterday afternoon/eve we ..... got the old engine out started getting the decent needed bits off the old engine and onto the new one and by the end of the day its was getting close to being ready to go in

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

Strange looking cars these, especially the wagon, but I do like them. I'd always fancied the 5 door hatch version as they look longer then the 3 door one. I suspect they are the same length though
cool wagon.

well, if all goes to plan over the next few weeks the 411 will have the new engine fitted, the electrics sorted, the cv boots done, and be MoT'd. At the same time we need to do a type9 5 speed swap on my mates midget. Both need to be done for Le Mans, and with CARS taking place just after it they should def be done for then.
edited cos i got my dates all wrong lol

Looks like a good amount of progress in a short period of time. Is this when I can get all jealous for you having a car that you can get the engine out of so quickly?

having never done it before we weren't quite sure what was ahead of us, but in fairness it was a doddle. It can be a nightmare with a bug cos you have to wiggle the engine off the gearbox and in very little room. With the 411 there is an access plate under the rear seat, and you can pull forwards the driveshaft which connects the gearbox to the engine. This means all you need to do is undo the bolts holding the two together and the engine drops straight down.
