A plug gap big enough to measure with a pedometer on a plug old enough that Antiques Roadshow were interested in seeing it. I think I have 7 more the same as that one. I think this is the cause of my drive getting kinda like this Another order for US Automotive coming on I feel. "its probably ready for a service" says vendor. "It needed a service months ago but I was thinking of selling it so I didn't bother" means seller...

The benefit of a gravel drive though, a quick rake and its all gone! I know what you mean though you wouldnt believe how many customers are thinking of selling their cars so put off a service or something, next year same thing. And the next...

just a quick thought, for my '78 dodge i went to the usa champion plugs website and found the part number for spark plugs then took that to my local factors (Andrew Page) who crossed it over to an on the shelf NGK plug. same with filters. saves taking it off the road waiting for an order?

Meh, at least it didn't look like this. ;D A new set of plugs would not solve whatever is wrong in that case.

Good suggestion Racingdave, but US Auto are usually pretty quick getting stock items like that out. Possibly quicker than me getting time to drive over to a decent motor factors...
Car runs, it just starts "unenthusiastically".
I need a rotor arm and so forth so I have to pay P&P anyway.
BTW - did you sort your trans problem out?

if its a yank tank you might be able to get the plugs here without going to one of the american parts importers depending upon car that is. and if you must go to a yank tank supplier give W.A.S.P in wishbeach a try as they are very friendly and hightly knowledable. esp when i had my chevy beretta and every one else was charing £60 for front pads i got them at £14 for the set now thats the kinda price i like

Well that's not good! Are you going to clean and gap those ones whilst the new ones are on order? I dare say it'll run a lot better just gapped right.

It doesn't look a bad colour though. If it were as rich as you suggest I'd expect it to be black. Assuming you didn't have any spares I hope you cleaned and gapped it before refitting.
A new set of plugs, leads and coil absolutely transformed my Talbot camper for about £50. That's after I'd sent it to the garage for a service saying I expected it had an ignition problem; they said the ignition was fine and tried to persuade me I really needed to spend £400 on a new carb.
Needless to say I won't be using them again. I'll probably take it to the place I used for my T25 (Wooleys of Hingham).

Check what is the correct gap as some of the HEI type systems run as big as 0.60" standard.

:)Anybody else got a car that seems to plod on no matter what? I have quite a few old Skodas, one of them is an E reg 120L5 with 278,000 miles that I bought 3 years ago for next to nothing. It looks hideously rough and the engine was actually siezed when I got it. I managed to unsieze the engine without dismantling it and have used it daily as a hack for the last 2 years without looking after it and spent virtually nothing...yet it keeps going! I look after the other Skodas properly but sometimes wonder if there's any point!

Meh, at least it didn't look like this. ;D A new set of plugs would not solve whatever is wrong in that case. Seth that looks exactly like the plugs that were in the engine in my Civic S before I ripped it out & put a replacement engine in & that motor was well & truely shagged & smoked more that my grandad with his 40 a day Woodbines habit... ;D

AK's spark plug looks fine to me! The plug's a nice colour and the electrode isn't even worn thin. I would have reset the gap and put it back in, personally. Being a uni student has made me an extreme cheapskate for things like that.

It's HEI and that gap is huge, probably more than 60 thou even.
The colour is good, the electrode is a bit burnt, the plugs just "look" old too...
It only runs rich on choke. Very rich.

0.6" 0.06"? 0.6" would 'only' require 50,000 Volts

0.6" would 'only' require 50,000 Volts ...and a recess in the piston for the plug electrode ;D
