I wanted one of these in this colour for a long time, ive had many jags, S1 v12, xjr ect..but the S has it all imo, the ride height, wheels, red carpet twin lights, even the colour coded mirrors and grille do it for me. I can't run a 4.0 anymore, but a tidy 3.2 came up very cheap and local- Not much I want to do tbh, as I like it how it is.

lovely, So much nicer than the boring looking German barges of the same era.
I thing you are wise to leave it as is, love the wheels. Love the bright work, love the whole car. Plenty of these going for good money over here but the damn road taxing system over here pretty much makes anything over a 2ltr out of reach to mere mortals.

Here is one of my others, a Daimler double six, series 1, short wheel base, only a few left. The only tax free V12 ive owned. Got lots more pics if they are of interest? (of the car,not the missis).

Yeah, of course they are of interest. I too wouldn't want to alter the S too much, why remove what was done right at the factory?
(Jags are exempt from the "hit it with the stick" comments, another delight of Jag ownership.)

Theres 1 mod I want though- A TWR or jaguarsport steering wheel. I was also happy the orignal purchaser orderd all the RIGHT options from new, doeskin leather, upper and lower (i don't like the black dash) steel sunroof , and cd changer and LSD! Ive got the list of options in the brochure and the purchaser has only taken the sporty options, no aircon elec seats ect. (S" comes with sperts seats anyway) Its the exact colour combo of the brochure too, so it must be right . The last propper jag?

I've actually been looking quite a bit at the Jag XF, I know their Indian now and it's modern, not to mention out of my price range by miles, but I can't help myself.

It has to be said that the S model does look the dogs wotsits in standard form, particularly in this colour. TBH, I'm not keen on the rear end treatment on the XJ40 but the 4 headlamps and colour coding make the front look really good IMO. Superb interior too, those "sports" seats look very comfy. Ideal spec too, as you say all the right bits ordered. A friend of mine bought a 4.0 Soverign some years ago and although I didn't like the styling much I have to say it was a superb car. I expected the comfort and ride quality but the performance was outstanding for such a big heavy car. As for your series 1 V12 SWB, well that is as classic as they come. Those lines are timeless - I need to see some more pics of that. They don't all have to have the young lady in but I don't mind if they do!

Looks very nice, I have an earlier XJ40 personally, a 1987 (build) 1988 (January registered) 3.6 . I have a feeling, being an S, you should already have the boot infill panel, which is part of the JaguarSport setup. I have this on mine, along with chrome ringed, Daimler rear lamp clusters (as these are tinted black as standard, to match the black finish), I also have a JaguarSport wheel fitted, but I haven't gotten round to re-colouring that the correct colour as yet! Love the S1, there really is something about them isn't there. I have, lying around somewhere, a few repair panels for the S1, such as an arch and a couple of other bits and pieces.....I can dig them out at some point if you have a use for them, I don't unfortunately. A recentish photo.

Lovely the R wheels on that! and you have a sunroof too!
Yes its got the rear pannel on it and the red rear lenses. As said the performance of the 4.0 is very nice but the 3.2 isnt bad at all.
Il upload some S1 pics later, my internet is fannying about at the mo.

Il upload some S1 pics later, my internet is fannying about at the mo. I used to have some 16" lattices, but, I prefer the look of the R wheels tbh. The sunroof, quite rare to find a base model 3.6 with the sunroof. Because there was such a huge demand for the XJ40, when they were new, there was apparently a shortage of A/C systems available, hence the sunroof in lieu of A/C. You could, at the time, purchase the car and then purchase the complete A/C system later, which would then be a dealer fit arrangement. Sure, the dash had to come out but the wonderfully modular nature of the XJ40 design, meant it was easy to fit. I rather liked the colour coded grilles on the S models as well, along with a few other touches....
