I'm not going to get into the real/fake patina arguments here, or whether or not rat-look and tat-look are interchangable. What I am going to do is post a car I think is awesome: The same car would also look very nice in a shiny coat of brown, but I reckon I could put up with it like that for a while.

I think that one works so well due to the high contrast given by those rims.
Looks damn good too.

Scruffy body and shiny rims is definitely how it's done! Looks superb. I'd probably have gone for a taller profile tyre but that's just me.

Is there anything one can do to a Type 3 that doesn't look good?

Besides the wheels and springs, anything else been "done" to this car? If that's all, then that's all. But would like to know. (Yes, yes. It doesn't need anything else if you're a Type 3 lover. But then, as said, it looked lovely to those eyes even before the mags and whacking. So question stands: What else been done to it?)

It could have a big-power motor, but it might not. as far as I can tell it's just a narrowed beam, a whack with the proverbial stick and a set of well-chosen rims 'n' rubber. Here's a car that has had loads done to it for you : and a stock Type 3: All bases covered. ;D

Looks good to me just like the Karmann in the Opel thread. Rat look 'done' to perfection

I like it. I would as I'm a type 3 fan but for me I would prefer a smaller wheel and larger profile tyre but thats just me.
I also struggle to "get" the narrowed beam look.
I would love to get a set of rear pop-out's for mine.

no idea why but i've always preferred well used looking air cooled vw's over their shinny stable mates. they just seem to have more character and a sense of history about them have a ratty square back from deep within my photobucket

dunno why but both those look like photoshops to me.
The one up top I like as a WIP. I'd be tempted to lay that over with a 30* satin finish pearl silver, after deleting the side trim and over riders and tucking (and rechroming!) the bumpers.

Here's a car that has had loads done to it for you : Do like. (also the Type 3 is nice, bigger profile would be lovely, and like the stock one too!)

Is that WFS or SFS? oh sorry, wrong forum. ;D As for this: I like; it actually looks subtle considering the 'look' it's trying to acheive. just don't tag it with a label and appreciate it for what it is. Wouldn't mind it with a tangerine 'flake paintjob though.

There is a sense that the photos have been doctored as said. The top car and the T3 in Violet's picture look great.
The brown would look great on the top car but I may have a bias for that!

Like that type 3! Type 3's really growing on me this last year.
and for what it's worth, in its own way I like the civic too ;D

I don't much like the Civic because I don't really like Civics. Do that to an FTO and its got a certain Fast & Furious charm. Do that (less the stick on spoilers) to a Type 3, would look eye popping... I like lurid colours, contrasting interiors, graphics, painted alloys...
