I do find it amusing when people spout the standard line about not factoring in labour in their costs. How many of you have got cars sat on your drive which owe you far more than you would ever recoup if you sold up, not taking labour into account? They keep a small number of old cars going and might encourage a few people to get out in the garage and do a bit. Yes you can pick holes in the "plot" (as you can with American Hot Rod or American Chopper) but it has to be better than watching I'm a love jungle jungle celebrity X factor. exactly what i was gonna say , and especially telly wise its 'our' I'm a celebrity equivilant anyting cars i try my best to watch it lol and wheeler dealers it just comedy mike brewer deserves a true slap in the face with a wet fish. he's a joke!

loved the Volvo P1800... as has been said before if you had to pay for the tools/workshop/labour I don't think there is a single car they have done that they would have made any money on in the real world! i thought the whole idea behind it was to show you that you can make money on car's if you do it all yourself? if this is your hobby you would already have the tool and some where to work on the car whether it's your drive way or a garage, and when do you ever include labour costs into the cost of the car's that you build in your spare time?

I think the idea is not to show them making huge profits or else every idiot would decide that they could make a fortune out of buying and selling cars.
The funniest one was the Lexus. They got a pretty decent deal on it in the first place, then wasted a fortune adding tat and sold it at a minimal profit!

nah the worst one was the one with the Porsche on it, i was screaming at the tv "what are you doing you *******" when he was going on about the great deal he had just got swapping the "tacky" bbs splits for the standard Porsche wheels (weren't the D90's or some thing?).
i love the show because it shows real cars being given a second chance, but mike really doesn't know his curse word from his ass hole.

roccoguy, I'm glad i wasn't the only one thinking that swapping the BBS rims for the teledials was just a little wrong. He did it on a brown merc to. It had wide colour matched center 80's-tastic rims on it. The went and the standard ones went on. Just looked plain to me after that.
Some of the builds to look like they have done it right and others look half asses and only look good on camera.

I can just about cope with Mike Brewer at a push, I also do my best to watch anything car related. The only one I avoid is Wrecks to Riches. The US version building seriously hotted up muscle cars is great but the UK equivalent, rebuilding write-offs for tight folk is cack.

cracks me up that programe after taking a wadge and ret on the unit lay out for tools ramp elec etc they would clear £3.00 some time times lol did likethe fiat 500 one hated the FIAT 500 ep; they destroyed the charm and character of an unmolested Nuovo 500 and turned it into a fashion victim. there was that down side but I liked the way it died on him as to say"leave me alone i'm old" did any one see the suzuki sj one that was a joke they did loads of work to it took it for mot and it failed on loads of welding surly you spot that when doing loads of work on a car some of eds work is good that vw van edd bought as it never sold it was at the end of the show

Whatever, as long as our kind of cars keep on appearing in a prime-time slot I'm happy. ^ That. Brewer is a bit of an idiot. They barely make a profit on their figures, before you factor in labour/tools etcs. In the 'On the road' episodes they ignored the travel costs incurred collecting the cars. Half the time they save money by calling in favours from friends in the trade. When they sell the car they invariably take less than they could get, but that's ok because he buyer is going to enjoy/look after/keep it on the road. But it's only a television program. It's far from perfect. But when I'm at home during the day and the choice is a bloke fixing interesting cars, or Jeremy Kyle shouting at chavs, it's not a difficult decision.

Does anyone know if ed actually does the work? In the end credits I'm pretty sure theres a mechanic in there, and i just noticed the other day that he called a set of feeler gauges 'vernier gauges'.

Yeah, if you watch the credits there's a bloke on there who's billed as the 'Mechanical Consultant' or somesuch. He's the bloke who Edd says 'Dave (or whatever) is going to come in and give me a hand'.
Think I've read before that he also supposedly owns the evilbay account that some of the cars end up getting sold on.

Yes you can pick holes in the "plot" (as you can with American Hot Rod or American Chopper). I've not seen the show, but I was amused at the mention of 'American Hot Rod/Chopper' and 'plot' in the same sentence. Really, after seeing that show I wouldn't be trust the Boyd Dynasty to make me a sandwich, let alone a whole car.

good program , always watch it. have read before that some of the buyers are staged but thats not the bit i watch the program for.its great to see car getting a spruce up and being kept on the road. the blue beetle was nice in the recent series. but the scooby they done was good until the worst viper stripes known to man had been fitted to it cummfybanana.com/ is edds business. think hes made a V8 sofa now to set a new record for charity.

Regardless on how bad/untrue/silly parts of the program are, as had been said before I'm just happy to see old cars being kept alive.
Also, I dare say that it has spurred many a DIY restorers etc to do the same. ;D

I was at the Mini 50 IMM last year when they sold a black mini they'd done... the lad who bought it had it about a year, it was on ebay the other week, think he made a profit too! lol

I hate the programme but compelled to watch it. I always voice over the Theme tune to Mikes a w££ker at the end of the riff.
I loved the blue beetle one the other day! Bought a wreck of a beetle for £1600? I wouldn't have given them 1600 Dracmas for it and they sold it for £6000odd what rubbish! It would have had to have had a Porsche engine and gold plated for that money!
The Saab 900 Turbo episode their was blatently 2 cars being filmed as their one they were working on.
They are all the crew and production company buying the cars for sure. Some of the prices they sell for is outragious! Mike always says I won't take apenny less than the asking price, but gives in nearly always a grand less - he is such a dinlow!
And there is Ed his Bumchum! Wish he would come around with Dick and sort my cars out for nothing and work like a Tesco Slave-labourer for 100 hours for nothing.
It is so rubbish but such a good mangrammme

Too much hating going on here! Agreed, I love it. Who cares if the figures are made up? You get to see the underneath of a lotus elan on tv!

True that^ I like Ed, Mike maybe a bit of clown but he's definitely no idiot. As for the Porsche episode I preferred it without the BBS alloys, to me they just looked out of place.
