Some traveller scumbag broke into the Benz and swiped my tax disc! WTF?! There was 3 or 4 months left on it, and as soon as I moved the car to the workshop I was gonna cash it in.
Fortunately there was no damage to the car or locks, and they didn't bother with anything else - just the tax disc. It's pretty unbelievable really.
Couple of questions: 1) Can you get a replacement, and does it cost (DVLA? Cost? Surely not...)? 2) What possible use is my tax disc to the thieving traveller c**ts? Is it just to stick in their uninsured, un-MOT'd sh*t-heap to keep the wardens at bay or would they be able to cash it in?

Not sure if they could cash it in, especially not if you report your disc stolen, then they might be able to stop anyone using yours until you get a new one or something. Probably it's just so that they don't get pulled over for not displaiyng a disc, at which point it would become clear they have no tax, MOT, insurance or drivers' license more than likely, I do know personally people who drive around like that, I'm sure it's the same down your way.

originally they could have used it in their car and got some fake number plates but now they need the logbook to get fake plates and the police check tax automatically so there is actually no point

You can buy correct BS plates no problem quite legally via the internet from any number of sites based in Ireland, channel isles etc. If someone does that and then starts playing the game you are automatically guilty of owt that happens 'cos the camera says so', until you prove conclusively your movements to the DFR's. Prepare to be cloned!!!1
Get it reported quick in case the big brother cameras start spotting 'you' speeding, crashing, raping, pillaging etc etc, those ANPR cameras really make me angry.

you can get the yellow stick on backing plates and get the numbers yoruself, stick straight over a normal set of plates.
but in order for it to be remotely plausable theyd need to stick it on another model of benz thats the same as yours.

Seems a hell of a lot of trouble, stealing the tax disc to clone my car - surely a pen and paper would have been sufficient. I will report it, just in case. My theory is it's just been nicked to stick in their illegal mk3 Cavalier so the wardens don't tow it - a lot of people round here just buy some sh!tter for £40 and razz it around for the season then dump it. Usually the council come around every few months and take all the abandoned / untaxed cars away. The sooner I get the car to the workshop the better! Just had a squint at the DVLA website and it's £7 for a replacement disc. All they say if it's been stolen is "report it to the police". I can expect forensics and SOCA to be on the scene this evening then.

I got new plates for the Avanzato within the UK with absolutely no proof of anything just a month or so ago, all through mail order next day delivery. Really won't be hard for them to clone the car if need be - I heard all the stuff about numberplates being hard to get now with you having to show all sorts of proof you own the car, the only thing they took was the registration and my card details!

that sucks. did they not take a stereo or anything else at all? Nope, nothing at all. I would have suspected it had fallen down into some little corner somewhere, but the passenger door was unlocked. The stereo is a face-off one so they probably didn't bother. Just irritating really - I could get done for not displaying my tax disc and have it towed

you can't get plates made from a 'proper, legit, licenced' dealer with a taxdisk anyway. the only document they can accept is a V5. So there's no point stealing a tax disc for that purpose, as the only places that will take it are the mail-order offshore ones that don't need to take anything!
Chances are it's just for 'show', a quick look up a line of cars by a traffic warden and all will look fine when your hard-earned disk is stuck in some £30 scrapyard special.
