That sounds exactly like the sort of thing I'm after. I knew the 'conventional' solenoids couldn't be slowed hence me asking. ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) Ford is currently sounding the best option, probably the easiest/cheapest to get hold of unless the Maplins ones are really cheap, but I can only find conventional CL solenoids on their website. It doesn't have to be mega slow, just slow enough for a smooth-ish movement rather than the snap on/off that the conventional ones do. Thanks again everyone and I hope you all had a good Christmas?

depending on how many your planning on using you should try and get them all from the same car, grannies used to suffer from the doors automatically unlocking again after you locked them as there were a few different types of actuator for the locks, if you fitted a replacemnet one and it happened to run at slightly different speed the system used to get upset and unlock itself.
On a granny the driver and passenger door ones are master units , not sure about all sierras and escorts, its possible the lower spec ones will only lock/unlock the rest on the drivers door one, dunno if thats down the the unit or the wiring.

sierra, Mk4 escort and Mk3 on granny are the same (but the plugs are differant), i have a tea chest full of em including some RS compoinant ones, i'll pull one appart next week and get some pics, if you want i'll sort you out a couple (if they are anygood obv) ? they don't need a seperate relay unlike Mk3 escort and Mk2 granny (which incidently swap straight into Mk1/2 transit, Mk3/4/5 cortina capri ect but aint multipoint unfortunatly) ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) postage only mate i have loads from breaking untold sierras over the past few years ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

unless the Maplins ones are really cheap, but I can only find conventional CL solenoids on their website. They only do the C/L motors, in 2 and 5 wire variants, quite cheap but also quite quick. Maplin are slowly veering away from really useful stuff it seems and moving towards PC tat and finniky gadgets. :/

as has been mentioned the vacuum type are pretty slow, have a deadlock one on the boot of my c class which is quite lethargic. also electric seat motors are worth considering they have some serious gear boxes which would slow things down depends how slow you want to go

I think I have a pair outside from an Orion. If I can find them you can have them. Don't know if they have the plugs on them any more if that makes any difference.
Just bear in mind if you do find a Ghia variant of one then don't nab the boot lock, that is electromagnetic solenoid rather than a motor driving a worm gear and goes off with a loud THONK. (Those are more useful as door-poppers).
I'm probably going to be up in Bristol at some point this week too, gotta go up to Cribbs tomorrow too.

Many thanks again everyone ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) It's only one motor that I need and it's not going to be used for any kind of locking. Not in the slightest. I'll post up details once I get something up & running. I'm probably going to be up in Bristol at some point this week too, gotta go up to Cribbs tomorrow too. --Phil Phil, if you're back in the UK and in Bristol, please try and find a minute to pop down to Area 52, I'd love to meet you. We've got a playday on tomorrow (27th) and will be here all day, all night and most of Tuesday too. I'm actually here at the moment typing away on my phone when I should be getting some sleep ready for tomorrow. I'll PM you my number and it would be great if you could pop over for a bit. Cheers for now, Bruce.

Hope that lock isn't too useless.
Failing that, i was thinking, get under the bonnet of a mid 90's scrap Renault and thieve the throttle stop motor. Winds in and out, stops when you tell it to and has quite a lot of torque.
Also has a switch in that will tell you when something's pushing against it, not that it would be a whole lot of use.
Good to meet all the folk up there too!
