There's guy near here who washes his car everyday rain or shine (or snow) the size of the sheet of ice on the road is impressive to say the least.

pfff been thinking about washing my car too I must confess.... not really to get it clean, because there is still a thick cover of fresh snow witch kinda keeps it clean.. but my wheel arches are completely filled with thick packed snow/ice... my car didn't have a lot of suspension room to start with, but now I really only have like half an inch... because it's a little to low I cant get in the arches to clean them out by hand... perhaps a power washer would help... but I couldn't find a gas-station that still had the washing unit open.. not sure how to solve this... I guess I just don't... not a real fan of washing anyway, I owned 7 cars so far (including the 3 I own now) and only washed 1 car, once.... and badly I may add as well  sometimes people ask how I can still see the road "thats what the windscreen washer are for.... doh..." (if they work  ) |

Does anyone have a wish to drive into one of those paint shop bake ovens for about fifteen minutes. I bet if you set one up, 15 quid for 15 minutes, like those hand car wash places, have heated jets, etc. Just drive your car in, and it comes out totally dry (and filthy).

I got mine washed in between the snow at a carwash during last week and it was all fine. However, I needed to get my cabrio roof down the other day so used some warm water to loosen it, last night I went to get some petrol and found said warm water all frozen up round my petrol cap... grrrr!

Last year I tried to jet wash a car in the winter period at a garage forecourt. The washbay was like an ice rink and it sloped down slightly to the drain in the middle. I slipped and went down hard on my ass bone, my legs flew forwards and went under the car, belting my shins off the sill.
I don't bother now.
I did wash the new lada today though, but it was a relatively tropical 8 degrees, dry and sunny here today.

We had to clean the windscreen of my mum's car with handfuls of snow the other day because the washer jets were frozen. That still counts as cleaning, right?  |

Now if you plumb your outside tap into the hot water system via a low preasure flow check valve you cat have hot water outside!!
I'm a bloody genius and I'm going to do it right now!!

has nobody on here heard of lathering the car off once its been washed water can't freeze if its not there if you have a big car do it in bits . i don't clean my cars as often in this weather but i do still clean em and the saying god made dirt and don't hurt is wrong as dirt left on a car in this weather will destroy it . and daveyboy i feel for ya i spent 5 years as a valeter for a 4x4 garage this time of year is a horrible time to be jet washing and cleaning cars for a living

As soon as you've driven it a mile after a wash it'll have loads of salty grot all over it so it hardly seems worth the bother. I took mine to a Kosovan Kar Wash where a bunch of East European lads were hand-washing cars in sub zero temps all day long. I felt sorry for them and was gonna buy 'em a coffee from the pez station, but when i went to pick it up I clocked them wheelspinning it up the road so i though f**k 'em and joined the BNP instead.

dirt left on a car in this weather will destroy it . well i'd say that's a bit dramatic salt maybe, dirt not so much dirt moves about on a cars body and makes tiny scratches in the paint slowly but surly destroying it . a cleaned and waxed car will repel the dirt and salt much more leaving it less likely to be ruined by the end of the winter . you don't have to believe me but i know my cars will still be ok by the time the summer gets here i personally hate chasing rust about on a car so try to keep my ones clean |
