This car is in good overall condition. The mileage, at just over 100,000 is quite low for one of these – no doubt you’ve heard the cliché about the Berlin taxis racking up a million kilometres.
The exterior is reasonably smart, a few minor dents and scuffs, nothing serious. Rust has been repaired on the nearside front wing and a very small amount is emerging on the other side. It is one of the better examples I have seen though. It is fitted with four mudflaps which has probably helped. If desired, second hand wings with no rust are available from £35 each and simply bolt on.
The interior is pretty clean although there are a few nicks out of the headlining and rear head rests where the last owner carried some bulky items. The leather is all in good condition – even the driver’s seat bolster. All electrics are fully working (even the electric aerial) except for the rear headrests which should drop at the touch of a button on the dash (to aid reversing, I assume).
It has some service history (up to 2007), and has just been given fresh oil and filter. MOT expires 16.02.11. I have a folder full of receipts covering the whole life of the vehicle. Most MOT certificates are present, and using these plus other documents in the file, it is possible to verify the mileage. The original owner’s manual and service record are present.
It is solid mechanically, having had many new parts fitted recently:
• Glowplugs
• Battery
• Alternator
• Front suspension lower balljoints
• Front suspension ARB bushes (outer)
• Front wheel bearings adjusted
• Oil & filter change
• Wiper blade
• Ignition lock barrel
• Pair of rear tyres
The only known issues are that the rear subframe leading bushes need replacement as do the front discs. Either live with the brake judder, or replace the discs at £30 a pair (easy job). The bushes will need replacing asap, however (£45 the pair).
