Hi
I'm getting a passat off someone i know in the motortrade,
he bought it back in march and now the tax has run out,
he only has an old style V5 so it doesnt have a barcode on it which the post office would use, the logbook dates from 2001.
Would i be able to take this and insurance and MOT in to the post office and get a tax disc?
Cheers Joe

Yes you will, but they will want to send it off, specially if you have filled out the new keeper bit. When we bought the crewbus it had been off the road since 1997 and still had the blue and cream log book. Got some funny looks at the PO but was still able to tax it. Them sending it off saves you the postage.

Well the person I'm getting the car off is in the trade and he went to the post office with his insurance and MOT and the old V5 and they told him they can't tax it there!
He told me and i rang the DVLA and he also rang them,
The DVLA told me no they cant tax it, they told Mike yes they can just needs to be done manual. so i rang them back again and they then told me they should do but they might not want to if so it will have to be the local DVLA office! And also they should tax it from the last issued logbook which they checked and it was in 2001 so hasnt been changed since then. so been told 3 diffreint things by them.
I asked them in my postoffice yesterday and she told me they will tax it.
one big nightmare, i guess its just a case of if the postoffice want to do it manually!

Looks like a case of a 'more than my job's worth' postie.
Always useful to find a reliable post office who know the score

As for taxing at a PO with the old type log book, if you get no joy at one, try another. There's a lot of Post Offices!
