There is an old 1987 EP70 Starlet sitting outside my neighbours house. It's her mothers, who I am assuming is now too elderly to drive. I'm incredibly tempted to make an offer for it, but need some advice.. It's totally rust free, I've "known" this car since 1991, and apart from her never using any other gears but the first two, it's in amazing nick. It's gold and totally original. I reckon it'll be a sub 50000miler, but I've been too lazy to look. Comes with 2years NCT (irelands version of the MOT) and a couple of months tax... upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/e/ee/Toyota_Starlet_1988_Sweden.JPG/750px-Toyota_Starlet_1988_Sweden.JPG^ Like that only much much cleaner and in gold. A few questions: Are they like a soggy biscuit to drive? Do they only come in 1l form? Are they cool yet? Any pics of custom ones? How much should I offer? Will I want to hang myself after 5 minutes driving it after having the Mini? Sorry about all the questions Mark

I'd say cool. Cant offer anything more useful than that. Standard model on Austrian EBay.

Now a rare sight, so in that respect i'd say cool! Not much of a following of here either compared to the RWD model. Go for it!

they come in 1.3 form as well. the "e" series engines all bolt in, you have a 12valve init right now, you can get a 1.3 16v with a good chip makes 100bhp, or u can go mad and put the latest 1.3 turbo starlet in there (300BHP!!). the "a" series engines do fit but are not a "drop in" mod. if ya get them engines in you have 1.6 starting base with 100bhp faster then a mini but a bit soggy axle rear end is a bit lively around bumpy irish back roads .

Any ideas on what I should offer? Tell 'em it's gonna go to a good home where it will get the love it deserves, then sting with an offer of 200 quid! Nuffin to lose!

They know me pretty well - lived here for 15 years, so no probs with them knowing its a good home. I think I'll pop round tomorrow evening and have a chat If I can get it for less than €250, I'll go for it. It'll mean I can take the Mini off the road and get everything I want doing to it done.

Well the plot thickens... I was wondering why I noticed that the bonnet wasnt closed properly and the rear and front seats folded down.. Turns out the car was broken into on Saturday night. My neighbours were away for the last week, so they only found out today. Before they went away, they'd accidently run down the battery, so luckily the little ****** couldnt get away in the car. They did steal the battery though, presumably to charge it or something and come back and nick it. I also found out that its returning to my neighbours mother for a few months anyway - my mother is going to mention that I'll be interested when its for sale though Quite unsettling having a car next door to you broken into. Could very very easily have been my car - but I get my old man to put his car in front of mine, so it'd probably be far too much hassle for them... Hopefully anyway

Doesnt appear to be for sale yet - the old lady is insisting that she is capable of driving for another few years. I disagree. Strongly.
I went over and had a good look at it anyway and the rear wings are actually fairly dented, but I couldnt find any rust!
