Hey! Hope this is in the right section, I know its not exactly retro, and might not be up everyone's street, but its my daily wheels, and get much pleasure out of tinkering with it anyway! My brother told me about the site and hoping to take up a lot of time looking through here! Think something similar is posted elsewhere, but cant find it at the moment! I bought this van, for £10, after my inherited spotless Austin Maestro was written off by a chav in a Corsa.....F**ker! So I was thinking of slamming it and rating it up a bit.... I was moving house and got this lowered effect which I really liked..... But not sure what to do with to be honest. I had a play in photo shop (as I can be quite handy at times with it!) Stole a bansky piece and added the letter for the door panel... and the finished thing, complete with postman pat styling! not sure whether to put a giant rat on the rear doors and have the royal seal back on the door tho.... Any thoughts??? Looking forward to getting involved in the community... Morns

I'm into it. ;D Lowered on a set of steels, if its going "postman Rat" then it needs to be matt black (or satin)

Welcome to RR morns, hope you enjoy this place....which WILL ruin your life! I've had a Partner on long-term loan from Daddy Damaged for the last 4 months, cracking lil' vans. Brilliantly nippy round town and handle pretty well, too. If he gives in to my demands and sells it to me I'll be going down a similar route. As far as I'm aware the running gear's shared with the Pug 306/Citroen ZX so lowering one is pretty simple. Mine's got the smaller 1769cc oil-burner (they did both 1769 and 1905cc versions) which is a bit low-geared for long motorway journeys, it's sat on the governor in 5th at just over 80mph. I do 200m a week like that though, and it's just flown through yet another MOT without so much as a spanner laid on it. It's not mine yet, so all I've done is chop up a couple of well-known tyre manufacturer stickers for the back doors... .....but hopefully this year if all goes to plan it'll be getting whacked with the stick over some 15" Xantia steels, a NATO green roller-job and some French Army stencils. Probably. ;D

I've had two ex-Royal Mail vans(one careful owner, several hundred not so careful drivers :-) ); a Fiesta Courier Kombi and an LDV Pilot. I currently have a Posh Partner with 5 sunroofs, overhead lockers and air vents in the ceiling! Still just a 1.9 D though- ok round town but not much fun when pulling my caravan :-( Turns out it's quite good in the snow, about 1000 times better than the pilot! Your right about going low- a massive stack of stone does the job :-) As for stickers I've kept it simple- a modified Arnold Clark dealer sticker- the one on my Pilot read "Old and curse word"! Yours looks like a bargain! I'm hoping to find a similar one for my dogs! I'd go with larger banded steels, but watch out- The spare on mine was from some other Peugeot and it rubben the inner side of the arch! Colour wise how about red oxide or primer? Defo go with Royal Fail, but shouldn't Potstman Rat have a Black and White Rat :-)

i think this would look awsome left as is. its faded rather naturally. just dropped to the floor on some 205 gti 1.9 wheels in mint condition. or gloss white banded wheels .

Not sure anybody is going to get the Postman Rat thing if you paint it black, you will spend your life explaining why it's got 'Postman Rat' on the side. I think it's got to be the same colour scheme as the Post Office ones to work and I would used the same font etc, Royal Nail is spot on.

Thanks for the feedback guys.....
I actually quite like the already faded paintwork, and spraying or painting would mean losing this, and a valid point that if i painted i would loose the fact that it was a post van, so could be pretty pointless!
After looking around it has to be steel wheels! When you say braided, is that the type I've seen that are extra wide and come out from the arches?
Overall a good van, hasn't let me down......still has to be practical tho as its my daily driver and also am an outdoor activity instructor, so kayaks and bike to be carried around......i've just got a set of mattresses for it so it now turns into a luxury double tent!
Royal Fail Royal Nail Postman Rat
Liking the idea hat people might take a double take if i go with a very similar scheme that was on the van...........of course i have RR sticker on order for the back window!
Thanks for the feedback guys, lots of ideas on what to do now, only a bit more guidance needed for the wheels.....have herd they use the same as 306 for a lot of the setup....

I think as already mentioned if you go the alloy route i'd be looking for some 1.9 gti wheels. with a bit of drop it should look very good.

Think your right about keeping the colour, i kinda like the faded look.....more retro that way...for a modern car really! And its going to be steels all the way, alloys have far too much street cred with the nova boys!
I've seen the royal nail van and really liked it, any chance of a picture of Dez's van on wide steels, seen a mk1 fiesta with them and liked the look/idea of them......
Loyal Snail Is also good......gives me something else to do in photoshop eh?!
Thanks for the comments so far......keeps the list of things to do ticking over.....thinking also a bonnet mod....either different colour or stickered up or even a eyebrow styling!

From what I remember the Partner has the front end suspension setup of a 306 and the rear end of a 405. The torsion bars should be close to the thickest as standard as it's a van so to upgrade the rear you'd want the Mi16 ARB. And a decent set of dampers.
There are plenty of 15" steels around. It looks like it already has 14" steels. If you want 16" steels then the 307/8 or the 3008 are the ones you want to look at. They come in 5.5, 6",6.5" and 7"

no pics of dez's van on my comp I'm afraid...when you find the thread just look at the pics and don't get drawn into the pointless debate in the write up...lol
i used to be an activity instructor in my yoof and ran around in a polo breadvan, a skoda rapid and an ldv400 at the time but probably not in that order??
some of the happiest times of my life..women, booze and fun on tap...feelin of freedom even if the cars were cheap and cheerful it didnt matter....fond memories
