Just noticed this on another forum. Apparently the OP plans a bowler type conversion to the shell. Thought the concept may may some people grin!
"My mate has just bought a series 3 landrover and the engine has popped. He has a redtop turbo sat in the unit and he's thinking about fitting it into that. Apparently someone does a kit to mount it and match it to the box. Anyone know who does it?"

I think I'd be concerned about the LET being more suited to a lighter car than a Land Rover - the power and torque might not be in very useful place, but I suppose it depends on how it's going to be driven / used. Interesting project for sure!

I'd say a big v or straight 6 maybe better, ford boa Cosworth springs to mind but the c20let is a very torquey useable engine so why not really?
There's also been lots of success with LPG on that engine as well.

it would be a cracking project vauxhall themselfs used the 130 bhp 2.0 8 valve in the frontera sport which are acctuall pretty fun to drive not sure about the adaptor to (i assume lt77 ) gear box in the landy but there is deffo one to fit to a type 9 and mt75 ford boxes you could just redrill the holes in the type 9 one and shorten the in put shaft i am acctually getting excited at the thoughts off this project even tho it is a bit nutty lol

Ive got a c20NE in the carlton, Thats a pretty damn heavy car yet it pulls it realy well. don't think a redtop would struggle with a landy.

My mate used to a have swb S2A with an ex-Mk1 Carlton 2.2l.
I know it is a different engine from the redtop, but certainly pushed his LR along at a fair rate of knots, and it never had any problems towing.

Meh, just throw a 200tdi in, 115bhp will still give the gearbox and halfshafts enough grief to break em regulary and it bolts straight up.
Plus 80-90mph in any Series will scare the hell out of most, i'm fearful in mine at 35 ;p

It's funny as there are no words, but the pics tell me pretty much the exact story I expected to see...much power, snapped halfshaft then roll and gaffa tape! Love it!!!

Series landies are not much heavier than modern cars these days, our Mazda 4x4 pickup weighs 1700kgs, or about the same as a newish Mondeo, he might have issues doing serious off roading though if the engine don't have the torque to pull it along in tickover, i would imagine you can buy caravan cams for a redtop, they should shift the torque down the rev range a bit if it becomes a problem.

Volvo back as my main squeeze, more boost and some interior goodies on the way.

1500 kg with a full tank of fuel, within 2% left-right and 53% front / 47% rear thanks to a much much lighter engine with the crank pulley over a metre behind the front bumper. That's with 4 mm chassis rails, full cage, heated leather memory seats etc. Permanent 4WD is a waste of space - do you see much weight on those front tyres? ;-) Never did clock 0-60 etc but it was certainly less than 8 secs, perhaps even 7 as it threw almost all the weight onto the rear wheels and you could launch it well hard compared to the (similar weight) Vitesse that the motor (without the compression and boost wound up) came out of. Provided that you were smooth enough not to ping the halfshafts that is. 13 quid each from Paddocks at the time and we got it down to about 30 minutes to change, most of which was chiselling the remnants out of the rear diff. BUTTFACE (Chris) has all the bits now, sold him the complete (exploded) kit for 200 quid a while back. Action shot was a still from somebody's phone cam IIRC, many many moons ago. Don't fancy posting any with roadsigns in the background and no a-pillar in front of the driver's face. ;-) Next stop is electric for that beastie, after having had ride in this thing whilst out in CA: www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=34677839&l=ef37476958&id=36900735(Ian Wright and the X1) Ooodles of torque from zero to infinity (ok, 105 mph, but that's plenty) and stupidly drivable. If I don't whack a 300TDi in there that is. MPi from a Disco would be an awesome engine in a standard Series. It'd be 1350 to 1400 kg, granny gearing, and 130 bhp - *more* than enough. Can't run it on chip fat though.

Low down torque not a problem - at all points in the revrange it has more than a 2.25 petrol or diesel, even off boost, and way better idle speed stabilisation too. Lowbox you'll spin the wheels before killing the engine. Fit 3.54 difs and a 1.2 transfer case and you'll ruin this, but 4.7s and a 1.4 transfer case and its fine. Screams its nuts off on the motorway (cruise at 5k) but the engine will take it, economy is ok, and its worth it for the a-road/in-town performance.
Only thing to watch is wading. Cambelt isn't sealed on these - so freshwater only. No wading through abrasive mud.
Consider also an entire Suzuki Vitara powertrain. No, really.
