I've been offered a Mk1 Golf and I'm REALLY tempted. It's not running at the moment as it has an electrical fault, so it should fit right in with the rest of my non-running fleet
I don't have much info on it at the moment - I think it's a 1.1 or a 1.3 but I'm not sure (I'm going to see it at the weekend)
The car starts but doesn't keep running. This was solved (bodged) by running a wire straight from the coil to the battery but then it wouldn't turn off(!). Plus it gets a full 12v whack all the time rather than dropping to 9v once the starter has finished doing its thing.
Does anyone know if the ignition on these things has a separate ballast resistor? It sounds as if that's the problem with it - the coil has been replaced and the problem still persists.
Electronic jiggery-pokery isn't my strong point
I'm thinking - strip off the exterior trim and bumpers, slam it and get hold of some 15 or 16in steelies. Nothing major as I really need to focus on the Mercedes project (before tonycocacola gives me a b0llocking for thinking about any more cars!!!)
