Theres a lot of misinformation about on this.
The story I've heard from in the trade (and I know a guy who works for one of the major paint distributors) is that 2 pack and celly will continue to be available for some time until demand dries up. Some manufacturers have canned making celly, and have been doing so for years as 2K has been almost universally taken in by the refinish trade.
The big thing about waterbourne paints is that you still have to use 2 pack primer and 2 pack clear, its only a colour coat product at the moment. I don;t think its compatible with celly primer or 1K clears like HS basecoat is.
One thing about applying it is that it needs airflow to dry. Bodyshops using it have air flow handlers (like filtered fans) to pass clean air over the car so when its in a garage at home it just won't dry properly.
There are also heat actived drying water based paints as well but these are less comon and you'd have to go over the whole car drying it with a hairdryer or something.

If he is small volume paintwork can't he continue with 2 pack? I'd heard that only larger bodyshops were being forced to convert to full drying booths and waterbourn paint?
BTW waterbourne paint is just as toxic as 2K is!

And Birdsh1t ruins it.... I know that all paints are affected by it to some degree but waterborn top coats are useless against it We had the convertible repainted by the "Insurance approved bodyshop" after it was damaged by some low life trying to get into it in Manchester The bonnet now looks worse than before it went in, even cleaning it off as soon as you spot it the damage has been done When I get round to painting the Kadett, I`ll redo the golf bonnet in 2k clear I shouldnt have to though.... if they`d used 2K in the first place i wouldnt have a problem now
