Hey, I was down a the Top Gear aerodrome today for the filming of the first of the new series - will be on TV on Sunday. Here's some of what I saw which admitedly is not all retro but is certianly gear-headed so hope no one minds. Visible from where we parked was this restoration shop...Ther was an Audi Quattro begind the Mustang and a 60's Elan and some other thing saround too. Oh, we had the oldest car in the car park by about 15 years. CTOW? This'll be the one they tried to kill then. The ski jump mini a bit blown Full size "airfix kit" backdrop made using real parts Reasonably priced Outside during tea-break and this apparition walked past... 'Liner Richard Hammond and a dog Also had a brief chat with James May about Heralds! A brilliant afternoon out all in all. ;D

how did u get tickets seth? Well, apparently if you go on the website and add your name to their database there's a three year waiting list However, I helped out on something for them a few weeks ago that will be on later in the series so my contact sorted us out as a thank you. ;D

I always understood that the Stig was Perry McCarthy. He was, years ago, one of the young rising stars of Formula racing (potential F1 champ) till a horrific accident finished his career, he nearly lost his legs.

He was, years ago, one of the young rising stars of Formula racing (potential F1 champ) till a horrific accident finished his career, he nearly lost his legs. It used to be Perry McCarthy, he even wrote a book about it. Rumours abound about the Stig, my favourite is that there's about three of them, that way they've always got one available and nobody can get too big for the helmet... Sounds like a great day out! It's really good to see they make it into a proper get together, not one where they appear, do their thing and run away. Cool, will look out for it ;D

Oooh, and I want that Airfix kit. I could make something similar out of my tat, I've got a 57 Chevy bonnet, some BMW stud pattern Pentas and a couple of low back bucket seats. It could be a clothing rack for the bedroom... Winner. Or more appropriately loser when my partner sees it ;D

I'm sure Christof could make something out of that lot for you Bryn If he wasn't swanning off every five minutes (or months) to cruise the highways of the world! I might have to get the welder out as that Chevy bonnet is begging to be made into some sort of bike hanging canopy for the back wall or barbeque lid... Hmmm ;D

Studio looks great.
Will be interesting to hear about JCB DieselMax
I always thought the Stig wasn't one person, just whoever was suitable. By calling the test driver 'The Stig' it got round the whole personal bias thing people have with test drivers.

It was Perry McCarthy Top bloke, went to school with my Cousins but the accident you refer to Rob was not him, that was Jonny Herbert at Brands in a F3000 reynard They had a tendency to delaminate around the 2nd bulkhead........ which is about half way up your lower leg Then when you crash like Herbert did, 45deg into armco at 160mph the front shatters and detaches leaving your legs or whats left of them hanging out the front of the tub.... not nice at all He walks remarkably well considering the marshalls picked his feet and lower legs up to feed them back through the car when they got him out Perry Drove for Andrea Moda in F1 you should read the book, it`ll have you in stitches ;D he s a really nice guy, got the talent just never had any money or backing ;D
