never heard of back tax
its resposibility of current registered keeper to sort out a sorn
Its possible the car has no registered keeper
not so long ago you didnt have to declare a sorn, you just didnt tax it

The sorn is valid for the owner for that car and is not transferable. Call the DVLA and apply for a logbook for the car, once you get it through the post the same day go online and declare it sorn.

IIRC you declare sorn on the v5 application form. I recently did it with my datsun which hadn't been taxed or sorn for 10 years. They sent me a letter stating that, but nothing else happened about it.

check the dvla website to see if its officially been declared scrapped, this could cause problems if you ever want to tax it

I bought my Passat from the scrappy with no documents...I paid my £25 and got a V5, when I received it I just taxed it (already had it mot'd), but I could've SORNd it online
