Does anybody remember the days of World of Sport on the TV, they used to show alot of the Aussie road races. One year the Brits sent a team over with two TWR XJS's, which spanked the Aussies good and proper in their own back yard. I think that out of the two cars the winner was the only one to finish but seeing them out drag some heavy duty V8 Holdens and Falcons was curse word hot.
If Typhoo put the Tea in Britain who put the c**t in Scunthorpe?
robmajorca, Unfortunately, I doubt it was that cut and dry, up until about 1993, there was no massive rules as to which cars could or couldn't race, infact, in the 60's the Mini's obsolutely cleaned up at Bathurst against V8's etc. The Jag's won before then, the Skyline's and Sierra's destroyed and got Banned and now it's only "Aussie V8's" which are made with American engines but hey, that's irrelevant apparently. I miss the old days, grew up watching all manner of cars race around there, BMW's etc and now it's ony Commodore's and Falcon's which look and drive the same anyway!
Also, Speedman.. was probably a Falcon Straight 6, the Holden Commodore runs a V6 the Falcon has been Straight 6 forever.
racer86, yeah man, most the days of the year the track is a Public road, two lane, 60kph limit only a few times does it differ from that from my understanding, the first is the Aussie "Supercars" the second is the Bathurst 24hr and there may also be some other reasons, unsure.

I remember seeing it on TV (not as long ago as the XJS's though) and the in-car shots with moving cameras and links to the drivers radio conversations was streets ahead of the BTCC coverage at the time.
Many thanks for the info Kyteler. I had no idea that Minis raced at Bathurst!! I'm now wondering if there are any sites where i could download some vintage footage, i shall have to have a sniff around.

Finding videos of the old races is a mission in itself! There are a few DVD's about with some History and Crashes but finding any on whole race can be a mission. Here's a list of the previous winners;

and ive seen the tom walkinshaw xjs qualifying laps. talk about on the edge. it was much more interesting "back in the day" get fed up of commodores and falcons.. as much as i love em and they make great racing, its good to see some diversity
Haven't looked at them for years, but I've got one or two Duke videos of Bathurst races going from mid-70's to 80's IIRC. Bought them cheap at an autojumble, they may still list them?
I remember watching it on TV here in the 80's. Track can be driven on the TOCA Race Driver series of games.
