With the daily playing it is time I cut loose another car of my fleet. The first car I owned.
Since I bought it 8 years ago, I took it off the road and where I had time fitted the Sebring Kit onto the car, which was not the easiest of things to do, but IMO it was executed fine. Details of the car and the build are detailed in This Link
Specwise the car has the following:
Bodwork: Sebring arches grafted onto genuine wings, front and rear valances, sporting genuine 8Jx15" Minilites with fully treaded 225/50R15 Kumho rubber. New Honeycomb grille and Tex mirrors. When the car was getting converted it received a new bonnet, N/S door and rear tailgate.
Engine: Ivor Searle Replacement engine with an unleaded head (10,000 miles on the engine). New distributor and I suspect nearly new carbs (they are leak free and in great condition). Electronic ignition with new leads and plugs. Fully serviced. Falcon Single box sports exhaust system.
Gearbox: Refurbished Clutch master and slave cylinders, suspect a rebuilt gearbox (it is one of the quieter MGB gearboxes, not to mention slick) probably done at the time the engine was changed, sound clutch with a rebuilt overdrive (600 miles on this).
Brakes: Brand new AP master cylinder with new rear cylinders. Stainless sleeved brake calipers sporting braided brake lines on ATE Super Blue brake fluid
Suspension: New(ish) rear springs, Spax dampers all round with 550Ib lowered springs on the front. V8 and Poly bushes fitted. New lower arms and lowered bumpstops. The suspension has covered less than 500 miles since it was rebuilt.
Interior: Stock bar new carpets and doorcards, new Smiths Dual gauge (mechanical water gauge with oil pressure gauge) and new Smiths Voltmeter. MotaLita leather steering wheel.
What problems does the car have? Well, firstly there is the bodywork. I painted it in Cellulose so as to use the car etc. and to get it rolling although a respray will sort this out. There are some cracks present in the bodywork where the arches go onto the wings. The Sebring valance was an appalling fit so whilst I have attempted to make it follow the line of the wings this will need doing too.
The back is higher than the front. Whilst the front arches disguise this a little, getting the rear lowered would improve the look of the car IMO. Whether you go with lowering blocks (the springs were new when I got the car) or get them decambered is up to you .
With the above and some personal tastes sorted, you should have a very well sorted Sebring on your hands.
It handles great and for a 'B on a stock engine it does not pull too badly or sound bad either.
It will come with a number of spares including a spare door, tailgate, and other random spares including chromework, Late chrome bumper gauges (Fuel gauge, Rev counter and speedometer), a Single carb manifold combo (I was having thoughts of turbocharging the stock engine since it is a sound engine), early seats (in Ochre), trim pieces and more.
How much do I want? £2300. Yes I admit there is more to do on the car, but it does come with alot of the hardwork done and with near perfect mechanicals. With some time and patience it should be worth alot more and be a unique 'B indeed .
