Hey
I'm changing the cat over on my car because the current cat has a little 'rattle' to it? What is it thats rattling? And would it be worth less to a scraper now that it does rattle?
Its on an E36 320i
Cheers

Yeah I guess something is broke. I wonder what/how? For scrap it should be worth the same though right?

normally on the e36/46 the aly cover breaks and then causes a rattle as it hits the cat, not that the cat failed.

thats what i hoped! but you can hear that something broke inside whilst handling the cat... Its all there for scraping, unsure how it can be worth less?

Its on an E36 320i Cheers the rattle is the inners of the cat broken away from the caseing.. 9 times out of 10 what happens is it then rattle around in there, till it rounded of all the edges! so it looks like a ball!! and then just rattles around in there even more!!!! I bet I change a couple a mouth for the same reason! scrap man should still give you same price for it mind.. as the inners is what they want.. and after all.. its still in there.. just "rattling" around a bit ;D

I took the exhaust system off the MGF today and found the cat was rattling. You can put your hand in and move the grid thing inside. They're not too expensive on ebay.

a rattling cat is worth much less than a non rattler.

Indeed.
I'd look for a good genuine cat off ebay off a Beemer getting broken for spares etc.
