The part worn tyre monkey who removed this from its original wheel, or fitted it to my wide slots has chunked the bead in two places. I didn't know this until after the tyres were removed again some time later. When they were fitted he said he had had to use a tube, i presumed that this was because the tyres were quite stretched, but it appears that it might just have been to ensure that this one held air. I've sort of agree'd to sell the pair, and now had them removed and found this. Which is a bit annoying. What do you guys reckon, scrap, looks like it might hold air ok, you'd use it with a tube? Cheers.

If you were keeping them then up to you but selling them, it could come back to haunt you.

Chuck them, why take the risk, simple. Fess up to the buyer, sure they'd respect that, unless they're a complete *.

/\ what they said, the black rings are all that keep you on the road, so once you know about the damage you've got to deal with it, in this case, scrap it IMHO

Let the buyer know, then it's his choice and not your problem. Personally I've run worse tyres but that's off my own back and generally carrying no passengers so I find it okay. Depends on your opinion I guess!

The tyre is in the bin (metaphorically, its actually still sitting where it was but it'll go to the tip, unless anybody wants a give away 175/60 13 for skidding - look pretty cool on an 8" I've got its undameged twin for a megra quantity of beer tokens too) Toss pot fitter at Hilsea Tyres would have sent me out on the road with that

Think you have a chance of a refund if you took it back to them?

Think you have a chance of a refund if you took it back to them? And he says 'prove they havent been removed and refitted since I did it'. Difficult one The unfortunate thing about part warn tyre places is that they tend to be cash in hand and don't have a great reputation for honesty, or certainly the ones I've been to. I used one on the AX once, '£20 fitted and balanced sir', bargain thinks me. Only discovered when i got home that he'd just removed all the wheel weights and not put any new ones on (no doubt they make a bomb out of weighing them in....). Went back the next day, different guy there, 'don't know anything about it mate, you sure it was here?'.

I don't take risks with tires tend to always stump for new tires where I can my new Audi daily unfortunately needs a couple of tires and the other 2 aren't far behind . its an expense I could do with out at the mo as I'm of work at the moment plus the turbo gave up 2 days after getting the car but I will be getting a new set of tires for it at the weekends once I'm back up to driving again

The only reason i'd go for a 2nd hand tyre like that is when i need a tyre there and then for not much money (I had a puncture and an odd spare). The price you can get tyres from camskill just means theres no point. Even when you factor a fiver a tyre on top for fitting and balancing they're competitive with a lot of the 2nd hand tyre places.

I wouldnt risk that, i must admit the only time i have, and will run second hand tyres is when i know where they've come from and they're in good order. I'm really anal when it comes to tyres and brakes.

The local place to me is pritty good for part worns.
Some good brands, and price is fixed (£22) and includes a new valve (long or short, your choice) and ballancing. You also get to rought around in there storage area to find what you are after if there is nothing on the shelves that takes your fancy.
After I had a pair fitting, one had a very very slow leak. I took it back a few days later, and the chap there didn't quibble, he whipped it off, cleaned all the surfaces again, and re-fitted with a new valve. All sorted.
There are good part worn places out there!

P.s. not relevant to the OP, but it has already been determined that the tyre is junk. Pretty poor show that they sent you off with that tyre in that state.

Firstly the fitter is a dangerous idiot. You can't (or you're not supposed to) fit tubes to '60' series tyres.
Secondly I understand people saying that 2nd hand tyres are dangerous but everytime you try/buy a second hand vehicle you're running on second hand tyres, unless obviously the vehicle comes with brand spanking new ones.
