Its dark, its winter, you come off an A road roundabout in your Trans Am, the straight through side exits bark on the up shift, the first few bars"wurlitzer organ" intro of "Town Called Malice" plays loud on the stereo and momentarily gets lost in the din as you run the revs through the next gear, the back end settles into the damp tarmac and it howls a sharp snarl as the throttle snaps shut as you gain on slower traffic ahead.
This is not fantasy. This is commuting.

Hmm.. I need a less standard exhaust..... oh, and a V8 to go with it.
That does sound awesome, there's something satisfying about commuting or doing long trips in something interesting/out of the ordinary/just plain silly.

I know where you're at, kinda.
No matter what my mood in the morning, it's always uplifted by the sight of the Zodiac as soon as my front door swings open. Sliding into the deep, soft bench seat I feel a smile spread across my face. If I'm lucky I might catch glimpse of a neighbour slipping into a day of anonymity via the medium of an anonymous vehicle. Again, I smile to myself and take another moment to bask in the glorious interior of the Z. As I drop her into neutral, pull out the choke and turn the key I feel a wave of excitement and anticipation sweep over me. I wait for that glorious 2553cc straight six to bark into life. I turn the key once, the purposeful red light illuminates on the dash. I turn it again and the engine cranks...then it stops, the light goes out, it won't crank any more and I have to text the 19 year old 'new boy' for a lift into work.
This isn't just commuting. This is shonky old Ford commuting.

hey guys you don't need a trans am to have fun, its a state of mind, i was drifting the 4x4 round the multistory carparks damp and slippy circular ramp thing at about 15mph this morning, was a bit tight in a lwb truck and it scared the missus a bit, with the only risk being me hitting the concrete, i impressed myself though, 4 floors up we went, was dizzy at the top.  |

I had a nice sideways moment at 70 (officer) on the dual carriageway at 6am yesterday morning as the turbo kicked in,in 5th gear,windows steamed up due to lack of adequate heater fan,poor headlights showing me the verge.....Love it,keeps you sharp!
