very cool indeed!
Ive made oen of these out of a 45 gallon drum with a 4" wagon exhaust as a chimney yet it just seems to smoke and gets nowhere.... there is a door and also breathers in the bottom any ideas :-( ive given up on it I'm thinking maybe its too big?

I've been busy collecting bits for one of these. Just 'found' a nice chimney at the side of the road, a nicely shaped bollard from a posh part of town. I'll be keeping a eye on this for ideas, liking the oven you've built in.

Have done some more fitted hinge to bottom door for air in, ash out then fitted hinge to oven and cut an old trolley up for the mesh that's got to be welded then made another baffle and a rod so it can spin put it all together in chimney an then put a handle on the ash/air door with three settings 1: closed 2: open a little 3:open full then i made a ash removing tool(got to be cut smaller an welded) and found a lever for the baffle

no grate for the wood to sit on/ash to fall through? does it burn well like that?
we used rover k series headbolts to make a grate 6" from the bottom and had the door a bit higher,it gets so hot the bottle gets a cherry glow!! it does eat through wood though,a dustbin full every 4 hours or so

Wood burns better with out a grate, you need a grate to burn coal.
Metromon you barrel is to big for the size of flue you would need 6" minimun on a burning chamber that big as well as a throat plate to speed gas entry speeds to the flue, it will also make it give out more heat, you also need to make sure you have enought air going in to service a burning barrel that size (plenty of flame not just a charcoal burn with the doors shut)
Twizzle I like the idea of the oven in the top thats some good thinking

what are the legalities of fitting these in both commercial and domestic properties?
with them being home made in the eyes of an insurance company, if your garage was to burn down would you be covered?
Has anyone looked up the Building Regulations regarding these?

Thats brilliant.... I wanna get stuck into making one soon... Not sure what way to go with it tho... Either just simple and effective. Or all over the top and steampunky

You are not alowed to fit a wood burner of any kind in a domestic garage under the building regs so if it burns down then no insurance cover.
Domestic property you would have to tell the insurance company.
You are not allowed under building regs to fit a none E marked stove in a domestic property so again no insurance cover, you also need building control or a HETAS certificate from an installer to comply with building regs and insurance
That said I have one in my garage.
