I am assuming that the fuel Granadas and European colognes (Capri 2.6 and Taunus etc) will fit the cologne V6 in the Mustang II?
I think my poor running is fuel pump failure as its definitely fuel deliery related. The fuel filter is half empty when it chuggs to a halt and then it bubbles a lot as it idles.

I assume they would be the same. The pictures look the same but Ford have an annoying habbit of things being just subtly different...

As long as the stroke on both is supposed to be the same then they should be fine. Any chance of looking up the required stroke in a manual?

I'd rather just fit the right mechanical one, but I can save a chunk on postage by buying a Granada one here than a Mustang one here or in the US and shipping.

If you wish (whether it would deliver the right amount of fuel would be another thing would be something else), I have a spare MGB SU Pump that can be yours (Seth would be the man to ask on fuel rates on that pump). As for your question, I am not sure. I would be tempted to risk it on the Granada item . |

I have aftermarket Cologne pumps new in the box for 24.00 (Borg-Warner manufacture). Plus postage. Don't pay a fortune over there. I always speculated this was a fuel issue you had going. Norm |

the pump will be the same as the UK one. i used a Granada one on mine even when mine had the Holley carb with no probs

A Holley-Weber 5200 DFAV needs about 2-3 psi of fuel pressure. Which is what the mech pump is set for.

Yeah I have a couple of electric pumps here, original application unknown, a pressure and maybe even flow regulator would probably be needed.
Norm - is that GBP or USD?
I'm hoping to find one on a shelf somewhere here, I suspect overnight ship from Ohio would be expensive.

It may depend on who manufactured the pumps and when, or which were used on which engines; several years ago a friend and I bought two MkII XR2s to build a good one. One was low mileage but rotten and the other one had thrown a big end cap through the block but was mint otherwise. The good engine was in a D registered car and the rotter was E registered, but the later car had a plastic spacer under the pump. I did wonder at the time, but obviously there was a change in model of pump used.

.....but the 2.3 uses a spacer block, and the 2.8 doesnt I assume that's tp lower the amount of fuel pumped by the pump for the smaller engine? in the same way 1.6 pintos (non GT) use a shorter fuel pump rod ? when i removed the 2.3 from my mk5 cortina and replaced with a 2.8, i used the rod and pump from the 2.3, and spacer - but no fuel was getting pumped removed the spacer and it worked fine - that would suggest either the 2.3 block has less thickness, or the block dimensions changed at some point after 1981 (1981 2.3 block, 1987 2.8 block) |
