Another early car, probably the most famous hot rod for "non hotrodders" due to playing a starring role in the god awful Elvis film 'Loving You'.
John Athan's A roadster
Hi-boy style Model A's on stock frames look rubbish. Fact. However stick the (prettier imo) Model A roadster body on a Deuce frame and you have perfection. This car was one of the first to employ such a technique along with lots of other neat touches to make it stand out.
The car was built in 1939, and was fitted with a Mercury flathead V8 later on. Athan cast his own carb stacks, wishbone mounts and windscreen frame which held the rear windscreen from a 1939 Chrysler to give the car a unique look. He also made his own headers which was way ahead of it's time.
The car featured in Loving You in 1957, and is still owned by John Athan but he placed it in the NHRA museum after restoration in 1998.
