Not for the purposes of buying you understand, just because I remembered there being loads around and now you hardly see any, apart from the odd S2 Lotus Sunbeam So i went digging and found out loads of interesting stuff. The sunbeam. My mum had one of these, albeit the earlier Chrysler badged version. I never realised they did an imp-engined 930cc one! Even if they did cheekily call it a one-litre. Interesting stories about the older cars having the badges changed when PSA took over to make them look like newer Talbot models on the forecourt - the picture above has "Talbot" on the bonnet and a Chrysler star in the grille. Used to see thousands but the only one i know of now is a chap works at the local salvage yard, in an oldskool retro boy-racer model. Every one you see has a dented bumper, it's the rules. The Talbot Avenger, another rebadged Chrysler. The brochure is wonderful, promoting such features as a "no-loss coolant system". Seems to have ended it's poor unloved existance as a Volkswagen badged Argentinian car: The Horizon. Is it me or was this pretty much the same size, and therefore a direct competitor to the Sunbeam? Apparently fairly plush, they always sounded rattly and tired even when new. Remember my neighbour having one, and him finding one morning that someone had stolen the tailgate. Stayed in production in the USA until 1990! Interesting piccie of the replacement in Europe though, the Talbot Arizona: . I recognise that car.... The Alpine... i remember my dad having one of these after he split with my mum, he picked me up for a visit in it. Had a bonkers amount of switches in it, and electric windows! He was still a git though. Anyway - how ugly are these? Fantastically so, and that's why i'd have one. in brown. Built at Ryton, in the news recently with a planned closure, quite possibly as it never recovered from curse word Alpine sales Always remember them looking sporty though, in all the pictures i can find now they just look a bit, well, curse word

The horizon was FWD and the Sunbeam RWD. And as for robbing bits of the Sunbeam for the Avenger, well they are the same car, Sunbeam has a shortened Avenger floorplan. The bits to go for are ti from the Sunbeam as they were stolen from the Avenger Tiger! There is an Avenger beside me that has the full Lotus treatment right down to the interior trim.

Other interesting Talbots Dodge Omni GLH. Same as the Horizon but tuned by Caroll Shelby to a massive 110bhp GLH stands for Goes Like Hell Lotus Horizon. This was going to be the group B replacement for the sunbeam lotus. It later had a change of body and became the Peugeot 205 Turbo 16

These were the "Flagship" of the range. The top of the range was the 2.6 ltr V6 ( which i think was shared with Volvo) which had all the toys. Always wanted one, now you have more chance of finding poor quality wobbly children's play pony curse word.

ARRG! Not those things!
Dad remebers them going through the auction when they were only a few months, or at most, a year old. He said that they were already rusting horribly by this point and falling apart in front of your eyes. Went for absolute peanuts all the time.

Edit!!! I didnt know there was such thing as a 2-door koop version, indeed I must say, I am not convinced that one exists.
Concerning the yank version of the Horizon, did you know they had VW golf engines and strut front suspension? A very bizarre (and curse word) machine.

And I would dearly love to ;D

I used to have a Horror-zone. Dog pooh. Utter, utter dog-pooh. curse word engine, lousy gearchange, more understeer than any other car I have ever had the displeasure of driving, teflon grip, an interior designed by Stevie Wonder and looks that are at best described as dated... badly. The previous (and only other) owner part exchanged a 2.0S Capri for it Why oh why oh why? My one had next to no miles on it and it was mint when I had it. I sold it to a mad Australian bloke who shipped it back to the land of Fosters, Kangeroos and Kylie Minogue's bum (hmmmm, Kylie ), where he has a private museum. Apparently its now the only one in Australia... Shame, until that point Australia hadn't been blighted by their existence. As for the Group B one - thankfully Pug had the sense to use the development and excellent drivetrain and fitted it into something that wasn't quite so butt-ugly. Although it has to be said that it was the best-looking Horror-zone ever built. There was one thing worse than my Horror-zone... that was the diesel version. That truly blew goats. (Apols to any owners of Horror-zones reading this, but I *REALLY* don't like them as they have no redeeming features whatsoever). Tagoras - they are just so ugly they are cool, though. Although they have one big problem today - you can't get tyres to fit the original alloys, as it was a unique size created for the car. And as demand for the car was as high as that for ashtrays on motorbikes, the tyres have become impossible to get. Stonking acceleration and performance... but who would possibly buy one instead of a Granada Mk2?

I agree that the Horizon really has zero interest value or redeeming features. What a pile of major-league chod.
At least the diesel one has an OK engine.

Remember those, there wasnt anything like them on the roads. It had the same 1442cc ( i think) lump from the Horizon/Alpine. They always sounded like a bucket of nails in a cement mixer. A weak link to the Talbot thread i know, but i did used to have a Talbot/Simca 1100cc van, which rusted to death to the point that i used to have a bit of rope and a lump of wood used as a tourniquet to stop the engine falling onto the road, so rotten were the mounts. They were good ole days they were.................. PS: they must be that rare now, i cant even find a pic of one.

Good work!! Mine was the, i assume, estate derived van. Loved it, went very, very quickly, gear changes were like stirring porridge and the steering was very "dead" but it was seriously comfortable!
