Early in spring Mrs. Ditchdigger scored a 1940's craftsman tool chest for me via craigslist. What she was doing in the tools section on CL I have no idea but she knows my tastes and I loved the gift.
It obviously lived a hard life, but I love the styling of it. I decided that I needed to restore it before putting it into service so I took it apart and then got sidetracked. 6 months later I decide I want a service cart to wheel out into the driveway and at the same time I realized I was really tired of working around that rolling chest that I had in pieces. Today I spent 6 hours sanding and priming and then played the "Mix all the leftover auto paint colors together until I have enough" game.
A day well spent. The handles were powdercoated "chrome" and the drawers lined with self adhesive polymeric mastic sound deadening sheets.
Next step is to find something to fit as a top. Something durable I can hammer on and mount a vise to.
