Ive started looking at these again recently. The misses is in love with Fiat X1/9's But the prices fluctuate all over the place. A good one can be anything from £400 to £4000 but a snotter can be anything from £300 to £1000 So ive been looking toward the yota.... As a possible b-day present for her this year...

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

Beautiful photos (as always from you) but at the same time, they make me very sad It's amazing how rotten MR2's can get. In my mind, I still see them as amazing fun cars, none of the rust/rot they obviously suffer from never seems to feature in my imagination! I bought my first when I was 20, a student and the car was only four years old. I guess this is the image that is still so strong. Seeing cars like that one also make me happy that my Mk1 must be one of the more solid ones around. MR2 ownership seems to be a double edged sword. Sadness at the rapid decline of the masses as they rot away from not being looked after properly. Joy at the good examples like mine being one of the 'survivors' and as they get rarer, they can only become more sought after. Anyone out there with a Mk1, make sure you lavish it with love, look after it and don't let that rust become the enemy that overcomes. Long live the MR2. anyone know if this is for sale and where it is. i have a plan to transplant all the gubbins of a mk 1 mr 2 in to the shell of an imp that i have sitting in my barn. or does anyone know of a rotbox that i can buy cheapish. cheers -aled

I could probably find out where it was but I heard that it disappeared a few months later, don't know for sure though.

Good spot there Rich! If it is genuine then its doubled the volume of oil it takes!!! And as a result it's probably even more effective at it's job. More oil capacity = better heat dispersion. Most race cars dry sump systems run considerably more oil capacity than a standard wet sump for this very reason. I love these things, such cool looking little cars. I'd love to have a proper go in one sometime to see what they drive like. I've been very tempted by them in the past, love the quirky 80's wedgy boxiness.

Lots of smart looking '2 on here. A few of 'em familar as well. Here's a few of my bag of spanners. This years main mod is to make up a exhaust system with a carbon silencer. I'm trying to get a bit more of a 50/50 weight distribution thing going on. Fingers crossed. I'm out at Tatworth, so maybe we can sort something out in the spring/summer, if your interested.

Putting a mk1 to good use. 4AGE on Jenveys and Omex, 177rwbhp, 6speed lotus exige box. Daily(ish) drive, as per Bruce's spec but now with a standard looking exhaust and modified ECU. Now even faster. Bolt on arches and 14x8 allycats or ronal turbos to follow.

Do you have a link to the bolt on arches?

They're not ready yet, Mr Paul Woods (mk1 conversion guru) is working in conjunction with nik farmer (twobrutal and zombiewings composites) to make moulds for mk1b specific bolt on arches based on those for the 240z.
Prototypes have been produced and moulds are being worked on. No production yet but hopefully we won't have to wait much longer.
I've got my name down for some, then I can cut the crusty arches off and fit some wider wheels.

Seriously one of my favourite cars of all time. The goal is to own one in good condition in the next five years. My dream would be a supercharged import.. this one is perfect:

My dream would be a supercharged import.. this one is perfect: yep that is indeed very tasty. would have no hesitation at even thinking of driving that, most people see these as girly cars but Id much rather be driving this than a mk2. the boxy profile just sits so well to me ;D

Just 'accidentally' purchased one of these and I think it might be this thread from a few months ago that subconsciously entered my drunken mind when bidding at 5am on a unknown motor. Its completely standard atm but I would like to improve the wheel and stance situation primarily.

On the downside prepare to get a wet if it has been raining overnight. Plenty of coilover kits and 4x100 wheels out there too

I have been inspired by this thread recently. I'm not into japanese cars at all but this thread made me realise there is the odd excpetion.
Got the chance to view one tomorrow, no MOT/TAx and been under a tarp for about 9-10months. Last time I saw it, it was seriously tidy - especially inside. Not sure now, I know it needs some work. Its red, F reg but thats what i know at the moment.
Assuming its basically a tidy car which needs a bit of MOT work, whats it worth?
And where to look for rot? everywhere I guess....
