Good to hear the oil leak has been fixed & she's kicking over. It's not going anywhere bud so wait until you're ready to tackle it again, if it's any consolation you've built a very tidy ped. Hopefully one day soon she'll been cruising the mean streets & not get run over by that beast of a Capri. BTW, how did you get on with the battery/alternator issue?

Cheers mate seems the hefty 75amp alternator fuse has blown for some reason so Ive ordered two new ones in the hope that I can just put the new fuse in and hey presto but in the more likely event that the new fuse will pop immediately and we'll have to spend many hours hunting for a short!!

Hi mate, here's a link www.moparts-webshop.com//universal-parts/tires/cat_80.htmlIt's where I get everything for it to be honest - make sure they'll fit though as I had to add a lot of extra curse word o mine to get them to fit! In other news, moparts emailed me to say my throttle loop is in and will arrive on tuesday... I sense perhaps work on the puch may begin again soon

Jinky, make sure you measure between your swingarms first or you might find it rubs and doesnt turn as it should, as i did with my puch.

Yeah, needs the rear brake cable replacing again, throttle assembly, cable and cable loop fitting, rear light and plates.... That's it really, filling with petrol and 2stroke mix and attempting to start! Sounds about as easy as fitting wider tyres eh?

Given that I've had a little break from the blighter and that I've got a bit inspired from various sources I thought id pull puch outside and take stock of the situation! I sprayed the whole thing from top to bottom with WD40 when I abandoned it as I had no idea how long that might be! It had a nice film of curse word on it including sanding dust and metal filings from it's stable mate so a quick clean got it looking a bit better Engine not looking quite as tidy as it did but I'm not bothered so much now - quick pull of the clutch lever and compression still very good - upped it onto it's new stand and assembled the new throttle housing: Then set about fitting the front brake cable to the new assembly - I'm not sure it's right as it has brand new shoes and cable and the adjustment doesn't feel right nor can it stop me very easily when scooting along for a few feet at about 1.5 mph... Have I done something stupid? Or have I fitted the cable correctly and it just needs bedding in the new brakes and cable? The back brake is even worse :/ Anyway, throttle feels smooth (not connected to the carb yet still waiting on loop but it should be here shortly) On inspection of the damaged cable it seems only to be aesthetic so I could tape it up - we'll see... So here it is, nearly done - I'd love to be able to start it up and see what it sounds like - if I can stay interested then it could be soon Here it is with some recently grown nature, a good sign of better weather

Good to see her dusted off & in daylight again, forgotten how well this looks. Here's hoping the outstanding parts don't take too long. ;D

Thanks guys moparts thought it'd arrive today so should be imminent! Jut got your pm dude yeah I'm keeping it because it's got the speedo in it and I quite like it! Think a round one looks better but I'm hoping it'll come back around like mk1 escort lights in that the ugly square ones are cooler these days! I've fitted the clutch lever and arm to the case and it works pretty well, I have to sit on the bike and wheel forward a bit then pull the lever and it cranks over nicely. I hasn't fitted the switch yet onthe handlebars as the old one is broken, I'm presuming it'll have to be fitted in order for there to be a spark? I've kind of been ignoring the switch as the layout is different on the new switch to the old. Probably easy enough to figure out I just like to ignore electrics until I really have to do em! Are my brake cables set up the same as yours mate? (in pics above)

Good to see you're back on it, looks nice with the fat tyres! About the brakes, this is not right: You need to have one bolt below and one on top of the little arm, so you can tighten it.

Cheers mate, yeah - it was a pain to fit them from start to finish but worth it in terms of looks! Ah ok I was using them together as a pair of lock nuts if you know what I mean? I'll still have the same problem with them when I correct the fitment though...

You got it right first time Daveyboy, 2 nuts above as lock nuts. There is always tension on it so it wont pull through the other way. Took a good few miles for my Puch's front shoes to bed in and a few fill ya pants moments.

Ha I can imagine that there could be some dodgy moments with the brakes as they are! I may take the cables off and measure them tomorrow and see what length its supposed to be as I have reason to believe they could be the wrong length.... I can't think of any other reason why I'm having problems with them

Just soldered up and insulated the damaged wire and replaced the switch however I'm unsure it's correctly wired due to it being different to the original switch and the manual I have stating different colours! Can anyone confirm I've wired this up right? Here is the original switch: Here is the new one and what I've done: As you can see the layout is different - the horn is obvious as the switch body has the button on so the 'lilacy-grey' one at the back of the unit (directly opposite switch lever) is right and on the old switch when the switch lever was in the middle position it bridged the White and the yellow/black wire simultaneously (sidelight and headlight perhaps?) so I 'think' they're right. The rest I'm unsure as the layout is so different - can anyone help please?
