Blackbrook tavern Stonemasons Pub, Illminster - LinkThat makes the first few dates: The next few: 13/11/2011 11/12/2011 08/01/2011 12/02/2011 Hey guys, just following on from a suggestion I made in this thread about starting up a meet in the Taunton area. So who's up for this? My initial thoughts for location would be the multistory car-park near the town centre. The smaller half is accessible over-night, there's cover from the rain on the lower levels, or if it's a nice day, you can head up to the top floor in the sun. A pretty large VW meet is held there once a month as it is, and we've never had any issue with it from the security or anything. The only issue is that you can't buy drinks or anything like you could at a pub, and the scenery's not as nice as a country side location. I'm more than open to other locations though, so put forward any suggestions. It doesn't necessarily have to be in Taunton its self either, a surrounding village would be fine by me. Next issue is when to meet? There are already local meets on the first Thursday and last Sunday of every month, so I'd say it's probably best to avoid those dates. Other than that, I always think evenings are better than weekend daytimes, as us students have to work weekends, so you can never please everyone with day-time meets. So I'll provisionally put forward the idea of meeting on the 2nd sunday of the month, at 5pm, at the multistory car park. Although if anyone has any issues with this, or any better ideas about where/when to hold it, then please feel free to speak up. Cheers, Robin. |

sounds good to me, equally I'm not over worried where it is really,although the more out the way the better?only thing with the multistory at this yime off year is late night shopping running up to xmas, car parks will be rammed, but could maybe move about a bit?else, a good plan.when would we wnat the first one?

deffo would be up for a meet can do the sunday although may be slightly late as i finish work at 5 on sundays but only work every other one. the car park sounds fine, think i know of which one it is although not sure or firepool carpark although out in the open.

Woo, I'm glad some people are up for this. That's a good point about the late night shopping, although I'd have thought it wouldn't be on Sundays would it? Due to Sunday trading laws making most of the big shops shut at 4, or is this exempt over Christmas? Time wise I actually finish work at 5 too, so maybe half past would be better, although if most can get out there for 5, I've got no problem with having to turn up a little late. Just to clear things up, It's this carpark I'm talking about. The barriers do go down eventually, but you can just drive around them through 3rd lane marked 'no exit.' We all do that for the VW meet and have never had any hassle from security or the police. The exit barrier will work all the time, even when the entry one's locked. Edit: Just noticed that If we wanted to start it this month, then this will clash with the A52 spray weekend. I'll check the other A52 dates to see if they're mostly 2nd weekends, or if this is just a fluke. Edit edit: Yep, just checked and decembers A52 play weekend is also the 2nd weekend of the month, and I suspect Bruce may be planning them to be that way. So I'm going to suggest that we hold this Taunton meet on the 3rd Sunday of the month instead. Everyone OK with that? |

erm,i think sunday trading still applies, so we peob be ok, but maybe half five would be better to let them empty, and for finishing work etc.
I'm quite looking forward to this, could be very good! ;D

I hope to have my car back or a hire car (someone ran into the back of my Nissan) so I can make this after it was kinda my fault bringing it up! lol Pain in the  , the bodyshop have my Mk1 for paint and now the nissan. I refuse to tax my Mk4 fiesta for one weekend tho. Lets hope the hire car will still be here then lol Will update end of nxt week!! |

Cool, so just to confirm, is everyone up for starting it this month? So the first meet will be the on Sunday the 21st.
Con2k, I'm sure one it us will have a spare passenger seat if youre still car-less and fancy heading along anyway.

Thank you guys, i feel like a member of the family already...!, just as an interest how many of you use your retro classics every day, i bought mine as a second car to use in good weather etc, but enjoyed it so much i use it daily even during the winter, much better than all the modern trash about.
