Its not retro is it but i cant help noticing these things. It feels like they have sold out by going 4 door but they look good imo and feature suicide doors-for the kids! perfect early intro to hot rodding for the lil tykes. In another way the design looks quite fresh, so if they ever get cheap i recon i might get involved with one. Do you recon its a one off that will make classic/retro status? or will everyone copy now? Also anyone been in one or know if they are any good

The doors are clever I thought, along the same lines as when Alfa hid the rear door handles on their 156 to make it look like a coupe (a bit). The rest of the car though, looks dull as hell. Doesn't really stand out at all from the rest of the crowd, which I think is a problem with modern cars. Future classic? Definitely. But that can be said for all moderns.

I quite like it. But not enough though, despite the clever touches. It's not really big enough to be a proper saloon car, thus making the doors maybe just a little bit... pointless.... ? 'you can never just say I look nice...'Give one of the previous gen RX-7's (NOT one that has been swathed in GRP like most of them, obv!!!) any day of the week.

Yeah i liked the 156 too. I think these are doing a similar trick. I'm really into these too at the mo but i'm sure they become the norm by the time i come to buy a retro new car in 2020!

I love em!!! A very original design with some quality tech under the skin. I reckon they're far nicer than the swoopy RX7. 'Bloody great' is the Mr_B viewpoint.

Correcto, previosly overlooked RX7 also added to the list for 2010. Are these rotary units any good then?

As long as you're not running one as a company car then great!
I'm lead to believe they are 'top whack' in the emissions / tax thingy, plus they suck the juice hard.... not the sort of thing for the penny-pinching motorist.

The new rotary is much better on fuel consumption becuase thay have finally got to full side porting rather than a mixture of peripheral port exhaust an side inlet. The thing with a rotary is that they respond very well to turbocharging, due to the exhaust gas energy being about double that of a normal engine. This is an interesting article - www.rotaryeng.net/turbo.htmlIt talks about being able to pull power out of the exhaust gas and return it directly to the the crank, 125 extra BHP to the crank? Sounds good to me! As a two plus two the RX8 is a really cool car, for a sports car the RX7 cant be beaten. They are turly retro in the savannah (sp?) form and the last of the RX7's is truly stunning, with that 'double bubble' roof! This opel speedster diesel is a great idea, just a shame it isnt being made. Fortuantly this is - www.loremo.com/index_en.phpIts a true four seater, does 150MPG, 0 - 60 in 9 sec, is light efficient, safe and good for the environment. Why the cars of today have to be so heavy and unfuel efficient is beyond me, the technology exists to make small light effiicient safe cars and we arnt taking advantage of it. I have been told that in the car industry everyone wants to be second, no one wants to make that initial leap into the unknown, but as soon as one does they will all leap at once. Just when will this happen? J

It is bizarre. Small cars are seen as unsafe and, for people who haven't 'made it'. people seem obsessed with fitting in, looking good and being safe-man! And True eco friendlyness still seems reserved for the crusty hippys! The tech is there though i don't get it! We car fans justify the MPG form our cars as its an hobby and the cost of filling up is just paying for that. theres no denying that it hurts though!
Back to the RX's, on the list if i can afford it in the future.

150mpg would rock. hard. Noticed in this weeks Autocar that Jaguar managed to drive an XJ from lands end to john o' groats and back a gain on a single tank. Admittedly this was in a diesel, but it got me thinking... Will there come a point where lots of folk get grief / poor performance from their cars because they fill up so infrequently that the juice in their tanks goes 'stale'? Sorry for the digression.. here's a pic as an apology

I can't like the RX8 The Rex 7 was a classic. IS a classic. Especially in FC driftu and last-of-the-line double-bubble forms. The 8 is a hairdresser's car which somehow manages to be both bland and repulsive. *n

Ohooohhhh. The RX8 is swish. A mate has one and is reasonably happy with it, asides from the lousy oil consumption. It does look ace though.
The car is supposed to be an alternative to the Nissan 350Z but with the added rear doors, which are a bit flawed because the front passenger has to get out first to let out the rear occupants. It does however open up the doors (haw haw) for an aftermarket gull wing version.
I like the new shape 'Ciffic' too, particularly in Type R form.

I like them I was in one when I was in Japan and got driven up some windy twisty mountain roads at speed ;D
Shouldnt really be compared to the RX-7 as they are not the successor and mazda are supposed to be building a new RX7

Nah, don't rate 'em. Too much of a compromised design, like the clam shell idea, but on the Honda Element, not here... As for the mechanicals, it does what a lot of other nice new shiny cars do, and every nice new shiny car I've ever driven has disappointed me in some form or another. Despite me really, really wanting to like some of them. Nexxxxt.

RX-8s i love them.
my sister's ex-boyfriend had one...i was really annoyed when this relationship ended coz it ment no more RX-8! the interior was really cool and funky, although i didnt fancy having to fix the autochanger when it broke...and the big huge transmission tunnel running throughout the car was great. the styling was also perfect in my eyes too, from every angle they look great, the 4th door is also handy for getting in and out of too even if the front pasenger does have to get out. the oil/fuel consumption isnt that good, but it IS a sports car so you cant complain...and at the end of the day, it revs to like 8.5k! ;D they are quite cheap too, which i think is their downfall because they are becoming really common which is such a shame. the engine is torquey too. vrskodanorman's opinion = very cool car and no doubt a future classic i wouldnt mind one
