309 is very underrated and quite a rare site these days. Have some interesting ones: ![](http://www.meinekarre.de/cars/Peugeot_309,_Serie_1_Coopex.jpg) Cosworth powered ![:o](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/shocked.png) ![](http://www.simonlewis.com/images/309-McMillan-BH-08-08-93.JPG) ![](http://racing-car-photos.com.s3.amazonaws.com/195.jpg)

Apparently outhandled the 205 as well?if anyones interested in a boggo 5 dr model there's one a few doors down from me in an empty house,I'm sure the guy would let it go cheap? No rust, but they didn't really rust anyway!!!would imagine it's low miles too as it's an old biddys house and it hasnt moved in three years iirc?

I'm guessing from the description, that the owner is most likely a rat-look.com resident?

They did handle alot better than the 205, ive had both a 205 and a 309 as a rally car and found the 309 a much better balanced car and less skippy on the rearend, they tend to be harder to find now than the 205 and after all this talk of them I really want another one. :-)

same as the 205 easy to do the front, the rear is torsion beam which sometimes can be a bit of a sod if the bars are seized in ![>:(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/angry.png)

I love my horrible 309! (it's not extremely low or hard looking though...) ![](http://teekkarienak.kuvat.fi/kuvat/7.9.2010%20Appara/Teekkarien_AK_09072010_21.JPG/_small.jpg) really enjoying these cars at the minute, think I may have to get one for the commute to work. what are the 1360's like and how cheap are they to slam ;D 1360 is the old Talbot/Simca OHV engine isn't it? I guess they're ok, but one big advantage of the TU and XU series OHC engines is that they've pretty much been used in every Peugeot and Citroen build in the last twenty years, so parts are easy to find and cheap. 309's have rear torsion bar suspension which can be lowered for free if everything is in good condition, but sadly it rarely is...

1360 is the TU engine i have read. I know they are torsion bar but don't really know anything about this setup, which is dissapointing really. fronts simple spring/shock setup then?
hmm.

Yes, front is simple. Have a look on 205gtidrivers.com for their rear axle rebuild guides. It really isn't as hard as it looks but it takes some amount of time and a full bearing set will cost about 80 pounds iirc. On 309ownersclub.com there's a guy doing axle rebuilds if you don't want to do it yourself. TU engines are excellent and have enough power for normal driving. Only if you are planning to ever get a GTI 8 or 16 valve engine you're much better off starting with an XU engined car (1.6, 1.9, diesels). I guess TU engined models can gain power by taking a bigger TU engine from a 306 1.6.

for me it will be a daily driver, gotta drive 17 miles to work, so an old, uncomfortable, slammed, ace looking car will be more suitable than my mrs. modern fiesta ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png) thanks for the info, I'm off to look for 309's ;D

Hmm, the Finnish Cosworth club so far hasn't complained about me running my Peugeot engined 309 in their training days... but that car would certainly be more appropriate ;-)

309's had a wider rear axel than the 205's which no doubt made them less ![](http://www.wired.com/images_blogs/underwire/2009/11/fox_60.jpg) happy. Its infact a popular mod to put 309 beams on a 205. I have one myself ready to go on. They share many parts with the 205. Peugeot paid far less attention to the underbody protection on the 309's compared to 205's which is the main reason most 309's are quite rare now. most have rotted away. Shame.
