I spent ages on the phone last night to Richard Jones of RJ Engineering. Top bloke and ever so helpful. He is, at present working on a CD Rom with an almost step by step guide to wiring harness conversions. He'll ask about £20 for these, which for the time he's spent on them, is seriously cheap, he's a really nice bloke, I just hope people in the "scene" don't rip off his CD's and ebay them . He rekons the price of a loom preparation is due to the masses of time involved in doing a harness, and can't see anyone on a proffesional level doing it for less than £200, it's not a hard job, but it is a long one. The subaru I won on ebay is actually MOT'd till July 2006, so I can use it for a short time while I arrange things, which is cool, means I can get a feel for what the car will need. Hopefully, Richard will come on here and take a looksie, he's another fed up with so called enthusiasts "attitude" and was saying how he just loves cool, whatever cool may be, and took great pleasure in telling me all about this mad jag he once saw, a 60's saloon on massive wheels, slammed with a super charges small block ford engine. how cool is that?!?!

My brother in law has a complete but high mileage (200k ish) '91 2.2 Legacy which is most likely going to end up scrapped at some point in the near future. Do you think someone might want it for parts to do a VW conversion? Would it be worth anything?

its worth a ton I would have thought.
depends on the state of the engine really.....
I may know a man who'd want it to rebuild and use in his, guessing it runs OK still...
Without compression test readings to asses the state of the engine, it's a little hard to tell.

I had a chat with him at the weekend. Top bloke, but far too free with his information which he's spent a long time acquiring - it's only a matter of time before someone rips off his discs and his parts (especially the bellhousings) so I sort of suggested he get things sewn up as he can before everyone else jumps on his bandwagon. Hope he does, 'cos he's got it all worked out. The conversion in his Syncro was damned tidy.

Pics will come of my conversion as and when I start to get things moving. www.rjes.com/ is Mr Jone's site, he's having some issues with a few of the photo galleries, but I think you'll agree, his "engineered" approach is FAR superior to other peoples lashed up plates and wheels. I'm even half tempted to get a support bar from him too once I can raise the readies, we'll see when I get there.

The Renault 21 silencer bloke off 80-90 is sending me a copy of the Kennedy stuff in return for 12 quid - a copy is yours if you want one Sounds good, I'll take a copy of that me thinks, but PM me about some of the problems with the KEP setup!. To name just one the ECU with the KEP setup sits exposed to the elements. That's cool with a bosh or other watersealed ECU, but not a subaru one designed to sit behind the dry dashboard. It's OK though, cos they recommend you make it waterproof by "putting it in a plastic bag " Those crazy yanks.

Apparently it can sit in the space behind the right hand side rear light cluster if you are careful about the wiring, etc.

Apparently it can sit in the space behind the right hand side rear light cluster if you are careful about the wiring, etc. I'll be mounting mine inside the van under the rear seats me thinks!!! rain falls right down there from your air vents in the rear 1/4's, so that seems like a very bad position to me!

I wouldn't leave it behind the light unprotected either - if it'd fit in one of the VW "lunchboxes" that house the engine bay relays, etc. I'd use one of them. If the VW box is too small I'm sure the scrapyard will yield something suitable ;D My van is a panel so I'm strictly limited as far as places to put stuff is concerned.
