Friday rolled around which was time to collect my chassis from the blaster/powdercoaters. Having been assured i could borrow a trailer i get a call at 9:30, just as i am about to leave, to tell me the trailer is now being used so i cant have it. This leaves me up a certain creek paddleless so i have to phone around everywhere to get a trailer. Finally found somewhere, and was told that as no-one was about for me to return it until monday i could have it all weekend. I thought this would be an ideal time to move around some cars that have long needed to be moved. The 411 needed moving from my mates, tashas bug from her lockup, and her racecar from its home too. How hard can it be?
So i leave at about 10:30/11, go across to Stotfold to collect my mate Larry, then pop over to leighton buzzard to collect the trailer. Turns out it has a few lights broken which delays me from the get-go. Finally get on the M1, round the M25, and up the A12. Just as we were saying we were doing so well it comes to a standstill. we crawl along for a few miles and it turns out the police have closed a slip road off, as at the bottom of the slip road an artic had rolled on the roundabout! Of course you can see this as the A12 crosses above so EVERYONE is rubber necking!
Finally get through it and up to Maldon to collect the chassis - at about 3/3:30! Arrive their to find they havent put the rear end back together, and to top it all the finish wasnt that great. Of course i have to now a)have an arguement with them and b)put the rear end together before we can leave! Anyway, this is how the chassis looks now
its just the tubework that will stay grey, the floorpan and everything else will be black.
By the time we leave its gone 4:30 and i need to be in Romford ASAP to drop off the chassis and sort some things out with the bug. Of course we had to queue through the rubber neckers again, and also at another point where the police were inspecting some other lorry. Finally got to romford at about 5:30.
The bonnet now has the vents grafted in, i am very pleased, you wouldnt know they werent there from stock!
this is one of the doors - in primer! Its the wierdest primer i have ever seen, its a special lotus primer apparently and is glossy!
this is how the shell currently looks
so with that done we head back to Maldon where my mate also lives to collect the 411. He has gone to Oz so i was having to phone around all manner of people to try and track down his mate who is house sitting! Finally managed to get hold of him, crawled back along the A12. Noticed that there was now 2 cranes with the lorry. we ever took a pic!
we get to Maldon for the second time and load up the 411. This is a mission in itself, and it weighs a ton! Back on the A12, crawled with the rubber neckers again, now 4 cranes with the lorry, still on its side though ;D Round the M25, up the M1, off at the A5 and over to Tashas to drop off the 411 there. Got there at 10pm, just in time for a cold beer steak and chips and my name is earl! ;D So we called it a day.
Got up at the crack of dawn yesterday to sort bits out, unload the 411 at 8:30/9am, then head over to tasha lock up to get the bug loaded. This was a mission in itself as there was a huge gradient and a flat tyre to fight against. Larry had headed home the night before but thankfully there was some guy around to give us a help with a push. I think it was 10:30/11 by the time i left and headed over to Larrys once more to follow him to the barn. Got to the barn for around midday and with it being such a nice day i took some pics ;D
we did have a proper camera with us and we got some great shots on there, but i don't have them yet.
Anyway, after moving all the cars around the farm i then left for home, thankfully found someone to help push the trailer into a safe position outside my house. All done for 3pm. With me having left in a rush the morning before my house was a mess, and i had a viewing at 4pm! Another hour running around and finally i was done.
I'm doing NOTHING today! ;D
