As the title says. The 1990s 1.6 ( 1590cc ) 4wd suzuki swift saloon. Where did they all vanish to? When I used to own ( 2 ) of them, there used to be around 1 or 2 on ebay a week. I have not seen 1 for at least a year now for sale. Wondered where they had all gone. Here was one of mine : And the day that the car went to the scrap yard ( bottom end rattling ) I still kick myself for scrapping the car ( dirty as had been stood for a year ). . The only one that I know of in existance is my (slightly chavy )friends . Sadly it doesnt run very well as the carb needs refurbing, and he doesn't know what carb kit to get

tbf they were a pretty leftfield choice when they were new, so i would say its no suprise they are next to none to be found anymore. shame as i think they are a pretty tidy looking car. loads of potential to them

Yeah i guess to the average person they aren't that great of a car, but seriously they are a really fun little car - extremely quick off the mark ( weighing about 950kg with 4wd and qutie a bit of torque )
Wonder if we will ever see one again

A good one to find. In fact you don't see many standard 90's swifts about either. I imagine they are in the same place as the saloons.

I've never seen one. I wasn't even aware there was a saloon model!

I know of one that a friend has sat in his rented lock-up, hasnt seen light of day for a few years now since he took it off the road for a bit of attention but as things usually go it hasnt been touched! He wouldnt part with it for the world though, it was pretty clean the last time i saw it. Good cars, and as been said very capable little cars Steve

All the ones from round this way were broken up for there engines, being 1.6 16v it was the ideal upgrade for suzuki sj better than vitara engines as they were the only 16v to have a carb not injection

Dihatsu Applause you say? What a blast from my past!!!
My mum had one when I was 13 years old for a few years. It replaced an old tired Sierra Laser.
Was (by my mums account) a great little car. She had the 1.6 petrol and managed to rack up at least two speeding tickets (which was unsual for my mum) in the space of year driving it. It also had a funy push button heating control system.
As for the swift, I never knew that model even existed. As mentioned has lots of potential and the random 4wd ness of it adds to its appeal.

Anyone got a bit more info on these; I've just got an insurance quote (using the reg number of the one at the top) and it'll be cheaper than my Polo. Hmm....
