Just purchased this fine piece of machinery: MG MONTEGONo longer with these wheels, origional 15" MG alloys replacedWhat a lovely chunk of eighties wonder-car Its in white primer at the moment, as the previous owner was going to respray, but its all very straight, and the before paintwork pics show that theres no nasty suprises, just some VERY small bubbles on one rear arch, probably genuine arches at that And also these little bits of surface rust to sort: But check out the engine bay Spankingly clean 2.0 EFi engine, regularly serviced and healthy as a horse Well chuffed! Shes been lowered on new -60mm lowering kit, interior looks to be tidy, it was a snip too. Now, the question is:Respray back to the origional white and make it all bufty origional ORRespray some other colour?? Feel free to potato chop it if you have any specific paint scheme in mind ;D

I though beige at first! Think it would look sweet! Part of me wants to keep it white with the red bumper inserts because my mates dad had one exactly like that and I used to love it..... but it bieng in primer is just a blank canvas, waaay too tempting to get silly with it! BM had to go, wasnt the nice example I thought it was and so had to do a bit of a bodge-it and scarper without getting an MOT on it, ebayed it off to Ireland Montego makes it all better though! The fella was parting it out for spares, but I said its far too good to break, which the owner agreed with, and it had an MOT on it so seemed rude not to take it under my wing! ;D Norm- Do you have a pic of the Passat? I must have missed that one.

Aw man why have you bought this now I just scrapped my MG maestro a few weeks ago. You could have had the moto build suspension kit with uprated bumpstops, unleaded head (which was fitted to late 1990 cars), polybushed rear axle and also the turbo driveshafts (I got from my brother in law and he got from Russ Swift). Excellent car though, 2.0 16V more or less drops straight in and you can either run that with the standard ECU or use the 16V ECU and you get a bit better fuel consumption. Handy tip for you if you need to take the rear drums off the hub nuts are left hand thread on the passenger side and standard on the drivers;). I still have several sets of 15" and 14" alloys as well as some 13" steels which when coupled with 185/60/13 tyres gives excellent accelaration and I think my brother in law has some banded steels in a 13" as well.

Cheers fellas! ;D Looks like opinions are devided on the colour, but we seem to have got it down to beige or white.... i'm leaning towards white I think at the moment, but that could all change by the time i've finished my coffee Aw man why have you bought this now I just scrapped my MG maestro a few weeks ago. Aww man, just my luck You sound like you know your way around them though! Good tips on the engines and wheels.... Does your bro-in-law want to sell those banded steels??! Mmm, beige body slammed over banded steels........

Beige would rock.... tough decision! I have a monetgo turbo exhaust manifold at home, interested? Looks like a minter, good purchase that man! J Ooh maybe! Whats the deal with turboing these motors, are they the same lump as the MG Montego/Maestro turbo but with lower compression and a turbo strapped to it? Dammit, getting well into it now and its only supposed to be a parts chaser/daily cruiser!

I'd say white, out of the two colours you're thinking of. Of course given the choice, I'd go for British Racing Green...

gotta be white man. The perfect 'ironic' 80's colour for an MG monty. Lovely.

Great purcheyace! Ok white works and it is an MG, theres some nice modern deep whites about if you are spraying it. it snot standard though is it? has some owner been colour coding it a bit and modding? look forward to pics on the propper wheels.

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

Not entirely sure what mods have been done colour coding wise- like the door handles, not sure how it left the factory? It has been de-locked on the passenger side only, but a nice professional job has been done of it Its also been lowered, and the rear spoiler in the pics is some sort of aftermarket one, but its now got a standard MG monty one again. Pretty sure everything else is boggo, so it might be nice to put it back to standard, get some MG badges on there and the red trim inserts again and just lower it even more ;D The fella is going to drop it off on thursday or friday as i'm too busy to collect it at the mo, so when I get it in the garage i'm sure inspiration will hit and i'll know just what to do.... I hope
