A small rant been trying to get a rebuild kit for citreon BX front calipers, and phoned one supplier who lists parts, the response,
" I have second hand calipers",,,No NO No i want a rebuild kit not your cast offs you don't mess about with brakes !!!!!!!! END OF
Found somewhere that will do exchange calipers, tempted but rebuild kit surely wont cost the earth the muppet at the citreon dealership wasnt much use either don't think he even knew what a brake caliper was!!!!!!!!!!
Why cant it be esy like it is for prober cars, like old triumphs, minis old rovers etc where you can buy just rebuild kits to rebuild at home.
anyways anyone know of a good Citreon parts supplier that deals in new parts not cast offs and rebuild kits.

I got a rebuild kit for cheap money for My Monza brakes from a main agent - not a citroen I know but the dealer makes a huge difference if he's prepared to look up stuff on old Microfiche
in the past I used to get them thro brakes international but not recently

A lot of motor factors and suppliers wont stock or sell them any more manily due to people rebuilding them incorrectly and damaging the seals, plus the fact that if the seals are leaking then chances are the pistons will have a pitted surface and the callipers bore will probably need honing. I needed some in january for a discovery and thats when my local motor factors told me that but the local land rover place kept them in stock so just got a set from there.

One thing as well if you do get them from a motor factors you normally have the choice of new or reconditioned so youre old ones would end up getting reconditionedand someone else getting them

I get calipers reconn'd rather than rebuild them myself. Like has been said they can be a sod to do right and theres a good chance you'll have a pitted or worn bore anyway.

Just wondering why the callipers need a rebuild. Are they leaking or is there a handbrake problem (I think handbrake works on front caliper but not sure)

I've rebuilt calipers in the past without too much trouble. I've always got the kit from a main dealer too. It was a while ago though - main dealers seem to have got worse and worse lately. All they're interested is flogging a legacy of finance to people.

Just wondering why the callipers need a rebuild. Are they leaking or is there a handbrake problem (I think handbrake works on front caliper but not sure) visually they look fine, havnt tried under pressure yet but if it works what i want them for i want to rebuild them as you cant mess about with brakes plus ideally you should change seals every three years, and fluid yearly, especially if you give them hard use and i intend to do that on trackdays.

A much better result this afternoon, went down to a local Citreon dealership, spoke to a car nut and we went through the pictures to find out which kit i actually need to order to get the bits i want, then as i went back to the car i found him outside eyeing up the GTM so we had a chat, he owns a soon to be tuned Honda... so we chatted Honda, and the price he has done the bits for is a lot better than than the quote i got from the idiot dealership yesterday.
