Just picked up the Kadett from Gary at Retro Motorsports, who was fitting the turrets ;D Big Thank you (Again) to Imreallyslowandalittlebitfedupwiththiscarmalarkeyme ;D For the lift over there to collect it..... oh and the lift back from there after dropping it off ;D Got some nice shiny turrets in now, ready for coilovers and linking in to a cage when I can find one for sensible money But he did his usual trick of trying to get me to go further ;D Now I am tempted after seeing the pics So Penski..... what were those wheel sizes again ;D And do you wish to release them to the "Not so much Bozu, more Berg Cup" cause ;D Cheers Dom

Looks like you'll be neededing some wider wheels...
You can get those compos in 8s, and I think they did a 9 as well, but they are rare as poor quality wobbly children's play pony curse word.
Kadetts coming along nicely though dom.

Looks good. I assume from looking at them those turrets were fabbed by retro motorsports. Mind if I ask how much they were? Those arches look good to, go for it, you know you want too .

Nope the Turrets were made by Rix engineering, he supplies most of the trade, and were modded to suit the shape of the Kadett by Retro..... They are Group 4 Round Escort Turrets which will probably set you back £75-85/pair depending on where you buy them, Gary charged £200 to fit them, plus a bit for removing the Tank and some more for the strutbrace brackets he would have fitted the damper brackets to the axle too but the brake pipes needed moving and its having a Piazza one on there soon so I didnt see much point in doing that Nice work though, all seam sealed and undersealed underneath too ;D I`ve got to make and fit some 4 link boxes next ;D

What kind of benifits do these give? A solid axle I assume Just wondering what I can do to improve me 1500's handling.....bit extreme, but it's always interesting to know what routes you can go down ;D (or how much you can really spend! ;D)

wow those turrets are sexy (note to self - get out more you find turrets sexy)
I'm going to be contromaversial and say while it will look the puppies privates arched i think it will look equally cool just low and clean sort of OEM+ but with all the high tech features you will be running. i may change my mind though.

If your arching it just for 'the loooks' your wasting your time imo. It looks perfect allredy, you wont improve it (probably make it look worse tbh!).
Only reason for arches is to get bigger wheels on there for bigger tyres or bigger brakes.

looks nice!
Those turret boxes you have are the expencive proper looking ones, you can get cheeper ones, like i was going to use on the Lada for around £40.
Why do you want to 5 link it? The axel set up you have is quite nice as is! Or is it to get a bigger axel under there?
I have some pictures somewhere of a car ian jemerson was building into a rally car to have an atlas under it, if i can find the pics ill link them here, I seem to remember he cut the whole boot floor out and put his own sections in. I think also he does the kits to do the conversion to escort 5 linked axel.

Ah, found the pics, not as good as i remember but gives you an idea of what he did. 57- he modded the rear arches for 15" wheels, and box arches. I remember now this car had original rear axel locations. 58 - another simular pic, but i don't think the rear leg of the cage is mounted in a way that would get logbooked for rallying 59 - see the massive tunnel he put in? I think that was because he gave the car more axel movement so the prop would have gone into the tunnel. Not sure, but is the original one 2 peice prop too? 60 - new front shock mounts, moved forward, i think on this car he was going to move the cross member forward to make it a long wheel base car. Aparently you can use a manta cross emmeber too, it gives the car wider track, but he was on about welding the bloody thing on directly to the chassie legs, not bolting!!!! To move the standard one forward, he was on about cutting the chassie leggs off and moving them forward and peicing them where the space was! Forget that, id sooner make my own crossmember! 61- just how he mounted teh cage. 62, the shell.... EVP - and Pughy. This is IMHO the best chevette in the country, my mate Steven Pugh naves in it, and the car belongs to Dai Dot. That car is 5 linked, think it has an atlas on it, not 100% sure, but it has 5 speed quaife pro, opel Xe with 220 bhp, Pughie says it pulls from nothing right to 8,500! Brakes are Subaru WRC type [not sure what type exactly] He has wone events like Builth Wells, and regular top 5s.... As you can see on these pics, when something goes wrong, they go out and do the decent thing, a bit of crowd pleasing!

go faster, the way i see it is that the proper one is much stronger, the many bends make it very strong, where the box ones look curse word and are not what was on a GRP4 escort!

Dom, it looks spot on without the arches (I've had the pleasure of seeing it in the metal). and as I said before, your wheels and tyres are the "right" stretch. Just make it go as well as it looks

Square Turrets just look IMHO The HD Group 4 spec Round Turrets are much nicer and stronger, better for use with Coilovers which is why I went for them They will be fully Tied as well to feed the suspension Loads into the Cage They will all be on show in the finished car so wanted them to look as nice as possible, the Box ones just don't do it for me Cheers for all the comments Guys and FWIW, I am going to Keep it standard looking, maybe with some J-spec arches (Mr Hotwire ) so Bozo rather than Berg Cup...... If I need more Grip/ Brakes then I will go Berg with it, but at the moment its a whole load of Work that I really don't need Keefy, yes, just been busy so not had a time to look fully, will get on it soon though Avtovaz..... no piccies ? Sounds like the one Prepfab were doing though Accurate copy of a works car, but I personally would do it very differently now, we`ve learned a lot regarding shell prep in the last 30-odd years ;D Mine is going to be similar spec to Pughs.... 220+hp 5 speed 5-linked LSD equipped axle Engine will be lighter and spin to 8000 rather than 8500 Cant stretch to a Quaife though Brakes will be Biggest discs all round that will fit under 13" Rims ;D Cheers Dom
