there was a fiat 126 pick up on here about a year ago, and the guy had the same problem, and iirc it was that that made us all aware of the commercial vehicle sva etc etc testing loop hole
Also, don't shoot guys down who are trying to help you!
enjoy your stay untill you get bored!!

I didnt mean to sound like i was shooting you guys down, i appreciate the concern, but ive found a way around it, and it wont be "bodged" so in the nicest possible way can we leave the whole IVA situation untill its finished? But right heres some pictures i took earlier, and the photoshop i done. I bassically put motorbike indicators on the front, some mini arches and blanked where the orignal hole was with a cut up icecream container . Oh and added some blue LED side light bulbs because my dad ordered to many by accident so had some left for me! haha Anyway pictures speak a thousand words, soo: Ignore the pen marks, i was lining them up, it will be painted later anyway And this is the photoshop i done, before and after: Pretty poor effort on the arches and everything, but i cba, it was just to get an idea. Opinions?

I love the way you say you have found a way round the IVA thing and it won't be bodged .... but you're happy to blank things off with pieces of ice cream carton.
Truthfully, I think the bike indicators look shocking and ice cream cartons should only ever be used for holding old nuts and bolts.
I know you have loads of enthusiasm which is great, but honestly I think you would do well to seek advice before modifying anything and maybe learn to use a welder.
Unless you are planning to just try things out, do your own thing, learn on the 126 and scrap it at the end - cos thats where I think this is heading.

Why all the hate? Just because ive found a way to get it IVA'ed and i have used a peice of icecream container as a template so i know the size of the sheet which will be welded in? :S
And okay fair enough about the indicators, personal preferance maybe, but i like them.
Yes i have enthusiasm, and i am not allowed to work because i suffer from depression, so instead of crying my self to sleep i keep busy and modify cars, i am a qualified mechanic and the welds shown are only tacks to hold it in place whilst i was lining and bracing everythign up.
I fail to understand how you can tell that this will end up being scrapped in the end, you could say that about any project which is in the building stage, it may not look very special right now, but give it time and i will be improving it, i have litterally only started the pickup conversion this weekend, so it is by no means what so ever in anyway shape or form road legal or near being ready for an IVA.

Just to put things into perspective, there's loads of shoddy welding and suspect mods on these forums and many members cars are technically illegal. So don't pick on one guy, and if you are that guy don't feel picked on

Hey, mt2man, please don't feel I was picking on you.
I just wish people would ask advice before picking up the welder/grinder sometimes. For instance look at your earlier pictures - you are welding and grinding with the interior and windows still in. If you had asked I would have recommended you remove them. Its likely your glass will have lots of little shards of metal from the sparks in it now. If you are lucky, and its ok, id tape up some card over the windscreen at the least!
btw - i didnt say i could tell it would end up being scrapped. I said i think it will end up being scrapped. Just my opinion - please prove me wrong, i would love to see you make something of this. I guess I just have very high standards.
And Fogey is right, there is loads of dodgy welding on most car forums lol.

I like the look of it, and it's good to see some young blood coming into the retro scene with ideas like this, and we shouldn't be pulling the lad down when he's got a) the guts to give it a go, and b) the lads unable to work due to suffering depression. Even if it can't be used on the road, he can learn his skills, and trailer it to shows etc. Good luck with it mate. and just to show the Pink/Black paint scheme works.

Its just annoying how no matter what it is thats being done, as soon as you touch your car with a grinder or welder everyone shouts IVA, i do know it will need to be IVA'ed when its finished, and am prepared to do the work needed to get it done, just because I'm young does not mean i don't believe it should be safe.
Fair enough about what your saying about the windows, they do not have shards of metal in them but i will cover them up next time! Its getting a new interior anyway so i wasnt to worried about the seats, and had them lent forward covering most of the window anyway, but i will bear that in mind!
I am not planning on scrapping it, but I'm not planning on using it on the road anytime soon untill its finished, so i have nothing but time tbh, its literally in the begining stages, so its hard to tell what the finished standard will be, but just follow this topic and i hope to prove you wrong.
A friend of mine is a proffesional welder, and me and my dad have only tack welded what we have done in place, it will be welded properly before its completed don't worry!

But thankyou yeah i am young, i cant work (as much as id like to) and i want to learn. I worked for Land Rover for 2 years so i do know how to use a spanner. I love a challenge, and this is a big challenge, but i feel it is one i will be able to complete and to a good standard, if you knew my dad he is a perfectionist, and i take after him so i want it finished well! haha. And cheers for the photos i keep changing my mind about the paint scheme, but we shall see!

Well, if it looks anything like this Then I reckon it's gonna look pretty cool. And seeing as how no-one seems to have said it yet, welcome to the forum, more projects make for good reading so keep the updates coming, especially any bits that come across with the BIVA stuff, that's something that we're all interested in! Lets face it, there seems to be a lot of ambiguity about the rules, and seeing as how the DVLA are involved...........

RR has a very mixed bag and the internet can make harmless words seem vicious. Just be patient with some of us and you'll be fine, usually no offence is meant, merely people concerned for your safety and car. Build threads are handy though, the more information you share about your build the more it helps other people, so I'm looking forward to seeing how you actually do all the strengthening and panel fabrication on this little pink car. Here's a little something for you to consider. Still could be used as a pick-up but has a slightly more coupé look to it. Rounded off the boot top and filled in the rear vent, also tapered the B pillar a little to balance out the proportions. That pink is tough to match.

Thanks for the photo! Its given me some ideas wha to do at the rear And haha yeah fair enough! I didnt mean to sound as if i was aiming that quote at you, but i appreciate your input. But anyway, not much progress but i may aswell share it; Fitted my wheel arches properly: And was playing around with some 10" mini wheels i had hanging around: Apart from the rediculous ride height and positive camber, i quite like them haha, but i will be going for wheels with more of a dish
