Last night Freecycle threw up a pretty cool treasure. Brand new, never fitted, electric door opener. Comes with VHS video instruction manual. Of course this is perfect as the garage has alarm, infrared video but manual door opening. The electric door opener will be great for when I reverse down the drive to the garage after shows and using the truck. So another weekend job waiting.

A couple of weeks ago I bought some steel from the local scrap steel yard for making the trucks bumper irons. While there, I chatted to one of the guys and told him about the stuff I get up to, playing with rubbish. I also mentioned I wanted to make a wheelbarrow tub soap box cart. He reckoned that was cool, asked for my number and said that if a decent tub came in he would give me a shout. This afternoon I was just at Charing Cross station on my way home when the phone rang..... BINGO !! So when I got back to my station I picked up my car and drove via the local industrial estate to find this. I offered to pay, as I always do in these situations, but he said it was probably worth 45p so not to worry. While down there, I popped into the local council estates maintenance yard where I always have a chat with Pete, and then get to rummage his scrap pile. TREASURES !! Start to get the picture ?? After robbing off the bits I needed for this challenge, I ended up with this lot. When Nicola came home, she popped down to the garage to see that I had not hacked off any limbs or welded myself to something. I also showed her the Rallye wheels I got yesterday, and her response was "They are even better in real life, I hope you are going to keep them Red" After this AI felt quite brave and asked her to take a photo of the projected challenge to Ta2Don over in Arkansas. BEHOLD !! What is it to be??

cant wait to see this thing in action. Looks like fun. So where is the hayabusa engine go? Front or back? I suspect front or back would not make much difference This week has been good too. I wanted to build a wheeled box, into which to pack the engine and other parts I strip off the 125cc Honda I bought to power the frame I bought last year as it is easier than creating a pile of parts in a corner. So I mentioned it to a friend who works in a hospital stores dept and is responsible for getting rid of and destruction of equipment. He Sid he had four wheels from some old piece of lab equipment for me that I could collect on Monday, so I collected and he had another three wheels that he found under a table added in. I think we will have a decent roller here. This morning on the way to work I saw a skip at a building site (where I normally get all the ply and crates) had gained a serious lump of wood on top of everything in there, as the job is coming to an end. So on the way back home tonight, I stopped in and asked two of the guys if they would mind if I scavenged it from the skip......... I guess this would be £20-25 if you bought it at a builders yard? Perfect for using as a ramp to get heavy stuff like compressors onto and off the truck.

Just found this thread, what a good read. I think my chicadee needs to see it now, the grief I've had over the years with bringing bits of tat home may well come to a halt once she sees what can be found/made from others trash.
I work at a skip firm & some the stuff that comes in is very tempting some of which has made it home with me like a 4x reclining garden chairs, heavy duty parasol for my existing table. Garden tools, drills To name a few.
The amount of money that gets thrown away is unbelievable the lads at work who sort through everything once a skip has been tipped find it hidden everywhere the highest amount so far is £300 in an envelope stuck under a draw, bags of coins in socks, old watches, jewellery.the list goes on

I know most of my colleagues and friends do not get my mentality. BUT IF YOU WALKED UP TO ANYONE IN THE STREET AND OFFERED THEM £50.00 I BET THEY SAY YES.
IF YOU SAID TO MOST PEOPLE TO GIVE YOU A TENNER FOR NO REASON, THEY WOULD SAY NO.
SKIP DIVING AND REUSING IS FREE MONEY.

Everything including the steel and wood and wheels was free and recycled. Base welded up from bits. The floor was an extra end panel that was delivered 4 years ago when I rebuilt the kitchen, no idea why it was still here, but perfect size to build the frame around. The tall ends were a piece of MDF I found about 9 years ago in a skip in Whitney, Oxfordshire with "scrap" written on it, the one corner was damaged, never had a perfect use for it, here I just cut it in half to make the ends. Sides screwed together and screwed down. Done, painted and waiting for the bits to go in, mobile spares is the way to go for me. Tomorrow I will start stripping down the bike, saving the bits I need fort he kart build and selling the rest on Evilbay.

Once the little bike was stripped, this was whet I kept, packed for storage, ready to be wheeled about what needed. So recycling/repurposing reuse and FREE MONEY IS ALL GOOD.

And yes,i do have a garage full of tat,or useful stuff, (depending on what item i've just tripped over!) Got a very nice set of welding leads last week to make a decent earth lead for my mig welder, going by ebay prices, thats about £30 saved! I have a long mental shopping list of stuff to look out for!

Freecycle vs Council tip..... Well, I cut in and scored these two Peugeot 807 rear seats today before they got binned. I will keep one and pass one on to my mate Martin. Could be worked in between a pair of good bucket seats in the truck. Then the backrest acts as a table and cup holder, or as occasional seat for a third person.

Lead foot, I would love to have a set of those. They are very cool tools. I have been sitting on the idea for a while, getting bits together to make one for my daughter to use in her garden. Based on an Idea I had a long time ago, which then also appeared on FB. Last year I needed to pee desperately in the middle of winter coming home from Essex, after getting stuck in traffic for over an hour. So I found a small side lane and sneaked up there. Well, my eyes are always open for treasures. So I noticed four of these Ford Transit wheels laying covered in overgrowth in the ditch next to the road. Did nothing about it, but made a mental note for future reference. Fast forward 5 months, and I popped up the lane last week on the way home and collected two of them as I could not find a pair of car rims at my local scrap recyclers. So Sunday afternoon late, I after removing the wheels off the Teardrop trailer, I grabbed a grinder and five 1mm discs later both tyres were off. Some flat bar to temporarily keep the rims in place on top of an old cast iron umbrella stand I have had for years, and you get the picture? I will design a hinge and hook in for the door, weld it all up and then cut the door loose. So tonight on the way home from London I popped into the yard to buy some steel to make a decent base for it to stand on, the stand will be a slip on with some pipe and the bottom holes all closed up so the fire stays contained. The guys there know how mad my head is most of the time, and would not take any money today for the steel, but did sell me a pair of kiddy Kettler karts for £5.00 which will go straight onto EBay as they always sell well, generating cash for welding wire or CO2 gas. I had a silly grin as I watched Glen pick out a sheet of steel with his massive crane and bring it down to the ground for a piece to be cut off for me. Next up, over the weekend will be cutting a plug, welding it in and shortening the base support post so that another pipe can slide over it. Cash waiting to be made, once I service and clean them up. The last two I sold made £25.00 each and the first one cost £2.00 and made £37.00

I think you missed some tresure. In the background of the photo whit the wheelchair. I see a walkingchair With Wheels. And in another photo i see the rubber foot on walkinchairs without Wheels. I don't know what i would use em for , but i think i would have used em for a table. I have one Zimmerman frame walking chair. Adjustable legs means it is perfect for putting stuff on like a working table. Also, I do not want to take all the stuff there, they sell the scrap for charity, so I am fortunate to get permission to rake around.

I have been a bit dry on the skip finds and freebies lately. I went out for a walk yesterday after work and spotted a skip and had to investigate as there was wires and cables visible and I go for anything electronic in a big way even if its only stripped for components that will be useful to me at a later time. I came away with these... Aiwa stereo 600 Ghettoblaster and a Olympus 1 mega pixel digital camera. The Blaster powers up and the radio works as does the line in on the rear with an mp3 player looks like the tape deck needs belts and it all needs a good clean. The camera seems to work I need a converter for my memory card reader to read the old style memory card.

I'd rather loose by a mile cause I built my own car than win by an inch because someone else built it for me. Your car is your story, so don't let anyone else write the book.
