I'm really just doing that typical game of "if i had...." I'm thinking that my next car will be something "sporty" i.e sports car think two seats loadsa power.
SO my question is £3000 budget, what car should I get, either modern or retro, that would be "sporty"by sporty i mean look sporty too, kinda like an mx5 but not so girlie, or MGB but not so "old man" ;D
They MUST be avaliable, i.e not some J metal thats impossible to get hold of, and there has to be more then one avalaible. The reasoning for this is that the £3000 has to be a realistic £3000, not some rust heap on ebay of a £6000 car....anyways....WHAT WOULD YOU BUY?

Buy a really good Celica Supra for £2k and pocket the extra £1K for running costs/mods.

i'd go mitsubishi starion for £2k and get a real nice example, then pocket the rest for the insurance

Volvo 850 T5. My current obsession! They suddenly got stupid cheap and they go like bananas. Not very sporty looking though!

I was thinking about this yesterday when anticipating how much a propper exhaust will cost for the 3 door. what would i invest in and should i sell up?! as daft as it seems the 3door was a compromise as a one car family, funny how things change. what to buy? new? i'd like a stripped and sorted BMW 3 series, but thats not me, old, manta's are growing on me. and i still need a 70's custom but it'd be a bit curse word on a track i recon. Remember unless your handy like nightmares or racer86 etc etc 3k doesnt stretch far on a sorted custom built car IMO having said that theres bargains out there to build on, ^ starion, supra etc Hmmm

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

like rmad says spend £2k on a celica supra and you are laughing, mine cost me £250 with tax and test, looks plenty of admiring? stares. and goes like stink aswell. so £2k would you get an unbelievable example. i know someone who got a mint low mileage one for £550..just somethin to bare in mind.

I expect i'll be shot down for suggesting such a buffer-wagon, but hows about a Spitfire or GT6? There's ample tuneage potential from either the standard lumps (NOT the 1500 though - they are bobbins!), or from alternative sources eg. zetec

^ that one's a bit silly if you ask me ^ My ultimate Herald would be: Brown, obscenely low, powered by a modern injected six - probably BMW...and it'd be an estate.
