hhhmmmmm still building up my photo thread of much awesomeness, but I'm going to need to dive in quick with another fail type thread on boring old engine swapping the sump on the iveco lump going in the F250 is kind of a 'winged' affair - and these interfere with the front crossmember - I was thinking about cutting them off completely, but then thought to cut the bowl off, and turn it 90 degrees, so the wings stuck out front and rear - however, now I have the sump off (COVERED in oil ) I can see that the bowl is rectangular, so it's not going to be easy to spin it around - so what about chopping the wings off?? it looks like it will reduce sump capacity by about 1/3 at least - do we reckon this could cause issues? - any other handy tips, experience and advice is very welcome, as I'll be firing up the grinder tomorrow morning! ;D

can you chop the wings off and add them as a nose and a tail or something similar?

Nope, no idea but my 1st thoughts would be an oil cooler. Would up capacity a bit and stop the oil getting too hot in the smaller sump.

I do, in fact, have the perfect solution to the problem. Give me the 2.8tD lump (you'd hate it anyway, trust me), and shove a Perkins Prima in the truck. Ya'know, that's what they all do in the states, they're crying out for Montegos on the west coast at the moment...

less oil in the sump means a bit more heat and more frequent oil changes, oil cooler wont hurt.

as said, can you not chop off the interfering bits and add extra bits where there is room? Oil cooler if not..

Should be fine. Those diesels are designed to do stellar mileage with no servicing so just change the oil every 5- to 6,000 miles instead of every 50,000 miles ;D

kee, can't add much at the front, but there's room at the back, plus that makes a better position for the sump plug craig - oil cooler is a good idea, plenty of room down there for it kes - I'm SO tempted to try and jam another one of these into the riva now...
lols @ J69, yeah, ritch did point out that with my maintainance schedule, I might as well weld the sump plug in.. Ian, thanks for the pictures there, very helpful for the visualisation of what to do next
right - break out the angle grinder and slitting discs!!

A trick worth using when welding up a sump, get an old worksurface and bolt or screw the sump flange to it using every bolt hole, by bolting it to the worksurface before you weld it, it deffo helps with stopping distortion if you are going to wing it, bolt it as you wont get the screws out from under the wing overhang
