That does appear to be a somewhat appalling job of chopping the roof. Check out that C-pillar Pidgeon poop: ![](http://www.stanceworks.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/pump1.jpg) Oh, and I can see light through the A-pillar, that's novel: ![](http://www.stanceworks.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/MG_5601-as-Smart-Object-1-copy.jpg) On the other hand, that rear bumper looks awesome cut like that.

2 pages of discussion and no one checked his website? Or did he update while you where (are?) all sleeping ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png) Those pics can be summed up in one emoticon: ![](http://www.barryboys.co.uk/phpBB2/images/smiles/lookatme.gif) The Burroughs attention-whore strikes again. He'll probably stick a 6-71 blower poking out of the bonnet in a few months for no other reason just to get more attention. Hopefully he learn to weld better by then; I'd hate to be in that car with it's repair history if it rear-ended something. And the irony of all this is, I quite like some of the stuff on the Stanceworks forum...I wrote this just for this occasion : www.retroscenemag.com/RetroSceneMag/post/Stanceworks-is-Hip-Hop.aspx

Bizarrely, I wanted to do something very similar to my Mk1 Jetta when I had it years ago, only with a totally flat roof much like the bug 'Flat Out' and pillarless. Here's a little sketch I did, probably about 14 or 15 years ago! ![](http://i464.photobucket.com/albums/rr4/Ratdat/Volkswagen/jetta.jpg) Kind of glad I didn't do it. Looking at this bimmer, I don't think it looks good. On a car that was painted and detailed it'd probably look even worse. I can't say this car is terribly aesthetically pleasing but a certain amount of respect is due for actually getting down to business and producing something.

i think it would look a lot better with a longer door, i'm guessing 6 series one could be made to fit, but then so could a 6 rear quarter, and then you might as well part it out to rebuild a 6!

In theory it should be great but it looks like a rush job with no though to the proportions. If I chopped a car i'd want to stand back and look at the job when the roof was just tacked on, this just looks like it got a bit dark by the time it was tacked so he just kept going lol.
Don't like the wheels either, though gold over chrome finish is my most hated colour.
All in all i'd say A for idea, D for execution.

I've got visions of Burroughs and his chums having a wee boys' night in just before a show, and after several bottles of Jim Beam have been emptied, someone breaks out the angle-grinder to raucous cheers of amusement.
Then, the next morning, he wakes up and breathes a huge sigh of relief that his ridiculous dream about fooking up his car wasn't real. Then looks out of his window.......

the best just got better , I can totally see where he's coming from with this car , a perfect chop on this would look so out of place , and if the chop was perfect this thread would of prob dropped off the page by now ! hats off to mr Burroughs for giving the car yet another make over to keep people talking !! off on my hols tomorrow and I presume by the time I'm back this thread will either be locked or on page 35 ! peace out folks ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) ......

I agree that the chop should be left ratty, but the proportions just don't work for me.

Boring comment: What's the legality of chopping a monocoque car? I've been considering giving the Polo a chop but I thought you weren't allowed to due to some sort of safety or cut-and-shut rule. There's a few retros (like Ladas) that would benefit from a top chop. It's as legal as making a car out of the front half of one and the back half of another, which is to say not very! Although it's possible to weld monocoque structures back together to an acceptable standard, the government would really rather you didn't try, as it's very easy to end up with a much weaker and more dangerous structure than the original, but very hard to inspect the work and guarantee its safety, especially with a skim of bog and a coat of paint on top. It may be possible to get it approved (like they do for stretch limos, hearses and other coachbuilt conversions) but I'm sure the process would be mighty expensive. Funnily enough, I was discussing exactly this yesterday with the VOSA area examiner... There is a similar clause in each of sections 2,3 and 5 dealing with the prescribed areas (suspension/steering, brakes and seatbelts) The point being, a well done modification that (in the tester's opinion) does NOT severely reduce strength to the point where it affects brakes and steering is not an MoT failure. Neither is one that can't be inspected because it is covered up. I put two cases forward to him, one a roof chopped monocoque car and the other a "bobbed" landrover. In both cases the vehicle would pass an MoT, and raise no issues with vehicle identity either. Oh, and the beemer? I'm getting emperor's new clothes vibes here... I reckon that he's messing with you all (and has been all along). Why else would he mis-spell his own name? You watch, he'll paint it pink and fit ronal teddies next, someone will still go OMG AWSOMEZ.

I'm warming to it you know, and TBH I'm kinda expecting it to be painted on the next generation haha. Still not 100% on this look, but as pointed out, he's hit the nail on the head every time (IMHO) so far, cant get it perfect all the time Ive changed my mind on 2dr-ing it, but would like to see a the front door extended, rear door shortened and pillar moved back, just for extra difficulty factor haha.

4/10 for the execution of the roofchop, but I see what he's tried to do there.
It's something a bit different to the norm - so I like it

I prefer it as a 2dr ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) ![](http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b24/jdiwell/BM.jpg) However, the roof proportions still look off, but I can't put my finger on why...

this car in my eyes is fooking epic i love how ott the wheels are , love how bad teh welding is love the paintwork. Lets be honest if it was nice shiny paint and awesome welding it wouldnt demand nowhere near as much attention as it does looking like this ! If this car was built by someone other than mike burroughs would it get as much internet hate as it does ?? ![](http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/ff52/n_const/haters-gonna-hate-15.jpg)

News flash! Guess what! Not everyone thinks this car looks good! Those people hold what are known as opinions, which by definition tend to differ from subject to subject and person to person. Since when did an opinion become hate? I'm sure the term 'hater' was created by internet wieners who just can't handle criticism. I don't see anyone on this thread shouting down this car because of who built it. Read the thread again (if indeed you have). Nobody is railing against it (well apart from Amazo ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) ) but people have merely pointed out they think the proportions look odd and it's pretty shabbily done. Both are valid opinions. Neither are hate. If you don't have the backbone to accept crisicism then maybe you shouldn't show off what you've built to the world. I'm sure Burroughs can handle critics otherwise he wouldn't do what he does so publicly. Clearly he does what he does to provoke a reaction, either negative or positive. If those with a negative opinion are suppressed then it's mission fail is it not?
