I think if it's the OHC engine like the 1.2's you should be ok. A mates 1.2 cambelt snapped when he cranked it over and caused no probs.

Some of those GM motors are non interference. I think the 1.4 falls into that category along with the later 1.6. You should be OK.

if its ecotec then kiss goodbye to it, not only do they bend teh valves they also smash the valve guides as the valves bend in them did you mean it snapped just after you fitted a belt or it snapped just after he started the motor and thats why you fitting one?? if so be sure to check all the pulleys turn ok before fitting new belt or you will be back in same boat again.. make sure pistons are halfway down/up bores before rotating camshaft though, just for safety )
